Anyone been taking notice of the Rays? Last year at this time, they had the worst record in baseball. This year they have the best record. I know it's still early, but these guys are playing some great baseball with a six game win streak going into today. They are 19-14 against thier own division, which has two of the best if not the best teams in the game. Rookie 3rd baseman Evan Longoria hit .300 with eight home runs and 19 rbi's last month. And he's a gold glove fielder, imo. They have a real strong bullpen also. Percival has 19 saves in 21 tries.

It'll be interesting to see if they can keep winning.

The Rays have everything... they have five excellent starters, power and speed up and down the lineup, they're crazy good on defense (especially Longoria) and Troy Percival has been pretty much lights out as a closer.

They're for real, alright.

Maybe not 5 excellent, but there are no holes in their rotation. Their starters are a combined 35 and 21. Only one has a losing record, Edwin Jackson at 5-6, and he's steadily getting better. He was great in his last outing, holding the Royals to 2 runs on 4 hits in eight innings. He's only 24 with a 97 mph. fastball. He has trouble with his control sometimes because that fastball has so damn much movement. If he learns to control in on a consistant basis, he's gonna' be really good.

QB Eagles

With the exception of a few weeks in 1993, I'm a fan of any American League East team that isn't from Boston or New York. Go Rays.

Quote4:54PM EST: Jon Heyman weighs in on the impending Sabathia deal, stating that the Indians have been trying to pry top shortstop prospect Alcides Escobar away from the Brewers as well. Heyman re-affirms that the Brewers would like a deal complete as soon as possible, in order to get two starts from Sabathia - one Tuesday and one Sunday - before the All-Star Break.

And a poster on the Phils MB says that LaPorta, the OF prospect, is not in the Brewers AA team line-up tonight.

I heard on WIP this weekend that the Phils have offered Carrasco, Golson and Adrian Cardenas.

They need to go balls out for CC, rental or not.

Beat writer says the deal to Milwaukee is done pending physicals

Goddamn, the Brewers have a stout rotation.

Bedard would be the next option, or maybe Harden, but apparently Bedard has been scratched from his start and has attitude issues as well.

Seabiscuit36

I'd take Bedard in a heartbeat, and his attitude issues might mean his value goes down

Floyd, Lohse and Padilla have 10 wins each

On the other side, P.Byrd and Silva have 10 losses each and Wolf has 8 losses.  You win.

PoopyfaceMcGee

Silva has always been awful, and Byrd was on the juice.  I don't know why Wolf isn't getting it done.

Padilla had to go.  I still think that for the price, they should have brought back Lohse.  But Floyd is obviously the one that is infuriating, because it shows the Phillies can't coach young pitchers and made a major blunder on acquiring Garcia (duh).
