i've had cell phones for almost 10 years and never had a "call failed" as long as i have a strong signal.  when this happens, it happens anywhere from 10-30 minutes on average.  one time i couldn't make a call for about 5 hours and when i finally got service back, i had 8 voicemails delivered to me from people who tried calling and couldn't get through.

don't have a case or shield cover, just a carrying case.  the back cover on the phone just doesn't fit quite right.

i've never had my pc reset to it's out of the box settings.  my phone doesn't freeze or jam or anything, it just randomly resets itself to the same settings it had coming out of the box.  my wallpaper goes away, no email, no contacts, no music or pics....nothing.  gotta take the battery out, put it back in and then turn the phone back on.  this isn't a regualr occurance but i'd say it's happened about 5 times in the 7 months i've had the phone.  i make a habit of turning it off about once every 7 to 10 days which is right in line with how often i turn off my computer.

and i wouldn't say that i don't find it to be user friendly.  i'm not a huge techie but i know how to use the phone.  i can navigate my way around it just fine and have a solid grasp of it's operating system.  i just don't like it.

lol @ the 5lb nokia.

ok.....so let's go with $325 since i would purchase from att and not the apple store and it's probably safe to assume that att has a similar deal in place with rim.

i believe that if i were eligible for an upgrade and walked into the att store today and wanted to buy a new iphone, they would sell it to me for a "discounted" price of $500.  so that's still $175 profit.  but since i haven't had my current phone for 2 years, they will only sell to me at the full price which is like $600-700.

I don't think you're understanding what I'm saying about the subsidy. That isn't Apple's cut on the purchase... it's money over and above the purchase price, all of which goes to Apple. AT&T makes zero dollars on phone sales. They make everything off the plan. Phone sales cost them money, because when it's subsidized they send several hundred dollars more to Apple than they sell you the phone for.

In other words, you buy the phone from AT&T for $200, AT&T sends $500 to Apple. It's all to get you into their plan.

yeah, i had no idea what you were talking about.  that makes sense.  except that it's a dumb farging idea.  but i guess it works for them since they make more money than i do.

anyone else having problems with the 3.1 OS upgrade?  my phone shuts off about once a day now for no reason and i have to do a hard reboot.  i've been reading around and it seems that lots of people are having this problem since 3.1 released last week.  and my battery seems to not last as long, which i never previously had a problem with.  hopefully they fix it soon because my phone is my alarm clock and twice this week it shut off in the middle of the night.  not like i care about being late to work but it's still annoying.

Well, you could break open the piggy bank and buy a $4.99 alarm clock.

I haven't had any problems, but I'm running a 3GS. The wife's 3G went crazy last weekend after she had it outside during a rather dewy evening. We put the phone in the sun, dried it out good, and then it totally locked up. I had to reset the phone and restore it from the backup. Since then, it's worked like a charm.   ::)

A good trick I heard of if it gets wet is wrap it up in womens nylon leggings and bury it in rice. the rice will absorb the moisture.

I have not had any issues with my iphone since the upgrade. phatty are all your app's updated?

i hit my year next month and i think am eligible to upgrade to the 3GS.  i dropped mine no less than 10 times at the eagles game on sunday but so far have not gotten it wet.  one of my top 5 current fears at the moment is dropping it in the toilet and i have come close once.
