I didn't think they would re-sign him, nor did I want them to.

If he were 31 or 32, maybe.

However, my analysis of the "negotiating" tactics of the FO still stands.

Does anyone really think they were going to re-sign Garcia after the way he played down the stretch last year?

absolutely not...they clearly didnt even make an offer to him because they didnt want garcias shadow cast over donovan...pretty sure donovan told the team he didnt want garcia back as well

Adam Shefter also reported that Garcia wanted to stay in the Philly area because he could get "married" to his longtime "partner" in NJ!

As expected, WIP was in a rage this morning.  "5000 PEOPLE SHOW UP AT FRANKLIN MILLS AND THE EAGLES DON'T MAKE AN OFFER?!?!?!11111"

With AJ signing a new contract, it would be cool if Garcia was brought back. Then we could have controversies at the #1, 2 and 3 QB positions

Sure Feeley can, on paper, do it all, blah blah. But Garcia, dishrag arm and all, showed something last year that this team sorely lacked - situational leadership.

And there are enough cracks in the "well-oiled-efficient-machine" facade to render their coldly calculated personnel manipulations and detached press positionings meaningless. If talent acquisition and game-day management were practiced better, maybe, but right now, no sale.

It comes down to how likely it is that McNabb will be ready-to-go come training camp. If he stumbles into the season I sure hope there's someone on this team who can not only play, but also fire-them up when the game-moment calls for it. One thing seems certain - we'll now only have one hope instead of two.

Exactly who is it clear to about your reasoning as to why they didn't make Garcia an offer? The practical, realistic people might think the Eagles feel that Garcia is too old, shot his wad and wouldn't be worth the money that other teams would offer. And your " pretty sure donovan told the team he didnt want garcia back as well"?? Were do you dream this shtein up? You the team gives a shtein what he thinks after they went with him and signed TO?

mcnabb has shown how petty he can be and imo he didnt like the fact that in two months garcia became a hero in a city that mcnabb hasnt been able to warm up to in eight years (not that mcnabb has ever tried)...its clear that had garcia come back it would have gotten ugly...the first time mcnabb made a mistake or had a bad game the calls for garcia would have been overwhelming...but dont get me wrong i think thats a valid reason for not having him back..he isnt a good enough player where you would keep him and be willing to put up with the qb controversy that he would bring...

the fact that the eagles literally didnt even make an offer to garcia proves all this imo

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Former CFL star Jeff Garcia is disappointed he never got a contract offer from the Philadelphia Eagles after leading them to five straight wins and a playoff victory following Donovan McNabb's season-ending knee injury.

"I was surprised I wasn't offered a contract. There was never anything to negotiate over," Garcia said Monday in an interview with Comcast SportsNet. "We never know what it would've amounted to. It wasn't about the money. It was about being in a great situation."

The Eagles agreed to a three-year contract extension with backup quarterback A.J. Feeley on Sunday, eliminating the chance Garcia would return to Philadelphia. Garcia, who turned 37 on Saturday, will become a free agent Friday.

"We just wanted to have a reasonable opportunity to be respected, to be appreciated for what took place last year," Garcia said. "Are there other reasons why I wasn't offered a contract? We'll never know."

A three-time Pro Bowl quarterback in San Francisco, Garcia revived his career in Philadelphia. He completed 61.7 per cent of his passes for 1,309 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Eagles were 5-5 and seemingly out of the playoff picture when McNabb tore a knee ligament on Nov. 19. But with Garcia leading the way, they captured their fifth NFC East title in six years and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

Garcia played under a one-year contract after miserable one-year stints in Cleveland and Detroit. His hard-nosed, gritty style quickly made him a fan favourite in Philadelphia
