if jeffy resigns here, it could be fun. Andy and the FO will say 1000 times that Donovan is the starter. Even Jeff will. But then WIP and the writers will keep trying to make this into a story, some player, perhaps Runyan, will say something that could possibly be spun into thinking that the players would rather have Garcia than McNabb. Then the media will hammer home this annoying topic to endless porportions to Reid and the players, in which case Andy will finally snap and decapatate Howard Eskin. This, in the end, will make this entire tireless process worth it.

Here is were we find out exactly how much faith Reid has in Feeley, because you can't go into training camp guaranteeing that Dmac will be ready.

That would be a qb controversy, Garcia and Feeley.

And don't say it couldn't happen. Who would have thought Garcia would have taken us to the playoffs last year?

It couldn't happen!!

Ahhhhh! Yeah! Like it could never happen that the Eagles would be 2006 NFC East Champions!! I can't count high enough to know how many times I heard that! But then again, those double digits give me problems.

If this this town/media/fans start arguing about who the backup QB should be and create some sort of controversey about it then I'd say that we've reached levels of stupidity that were previously unfathomable.

Jeff Garcia to Denver?
QuoteWith it looking more likely that Jeff Garcia will not return to the Eagles next season, two league sources said tonight that the Denver Broncos could pursue the veteran quarterback's services when the free-agent market opens Friday.

Steve Baker, the agent for Garcia, said Friday that if the two sides had not struck a deal before the free-agent period opened that the Eagles did not expect to re-sign his client. With veteran Jake Plummer expected to be released by the Broncos, they are in the market for a backup to second-year quarterback Jay Cutler, who took over as the starter during the final five games of his rookie season.

Garcia, who performed brilliantly after taking over for the injured Donovan McNabb during the 2006 season, had hoped to either rejoin the Eagles as McNabb's backup or go somewhere else and start for a team that is considered a postseason contender. If, as expected, the Eagles decide against bringing back Garcia, A.J. Feeley will be elevated to the backup role after spending last season as the third quarterback.

Baker said Friday that Garcia will have plenty of options to sign with other teams as either a starter or a backup once the free-agent market opens. It just doesn't appear likely any more that the Eagles are going to be one of those options.

Feeley given contract extension; Garcia unlikely to be re-signed

QuoteFeeley Signs Contract Extension

February 25, 2007
By DAVE SPADARO

A.J. Feeley has signed a three-year contract extension through the 2010 season, the Eagles have announced. Feeley, reaquired prior to the 2006 regular season, will apparently settle into the position of the No. 2 quarterback for this team in 2007.

Jeff Garcia will likely enter free agency as an unrestricted free agent and the Eagles will likely look to the draft for a third quarterback.

Feeley saw his most extensive action in 2006 in the regular season finale when he completed 22 of 33 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns in the victory over Atlanta.

Entering the final year of a two-year contract he signed after his release from the Chargers last summer, Feeley wanted some clarity on his situation with the Eagles.

He got it.

"A.J. Feeley has been very productive as a starting quarterback in Philadelphia," said general manager Tom Heckert. "He's won some games at crucial times for this franchise and he gives us a great amount of confidence as a back-up to Donovan McNabb. A.J.'s proven to be very comfortable in this offensive scheme and we look forward to having him in the fold for the next several years."

He was great when he stepped in this season.  That said, he's 36, and losing him is no huge loss.

Thanks Jeff for the great season.  See ya.....
