I never said they were the defense of 4-5 years ago. Learn how to read and stop trying to twist words around.

I said they've been playing well the last couple of weeks, and have been playing like they used to when they were "good". Give up yards, keep opponents out of the endzone, and make the big play when it matters. So, IF they can keep that up again this week, then it could be a win for the Eagles.

Eli Manning and the Giants are on a downword spiral, and thier only win in the laast 5 weeks was the Panthers. Yeah, Eli rules. :crazy

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

saying a win in the game is not homerish just someone having blind faith which is kinda cute

however coming up with the most inane reasons for it is homerlicious son

like the defense keeping people out of the end zone

like aluding to the fact that somehow this defense is like the good eagle defenses of 4-5 years ago because they kept jason campbell out of the end zone

eli supposedly sucking when he threw for almsot 400 yards against them THIS year in philly when the eagle defense was supposedly good

just remember, when Manning had that big game in Philly, the secondary was a mess--you had no Sheppard playing, Rod Hood went out at halftime, and you had Joselio Hanson playing his first meaningful minutes of the season, along with Dexter Wynn,, who just let Amani Toomer go flying by him--a few times.

Defensively for the Giants, there will be no Strahan--rumor from NY is he could be out for the year. Also, Shaun O'Hara is dinged up--he might not play, so there will be a bit of a shakeup on the offensive line. Runyan will have to handle Kiwanuka, and as someone else pointed out, Westbrook will have to handle the ball at least 25-30 times.

I can see the Eagles completing a lot of passes against this secondary--Madison is not 100% still, and their other CB has been getting burned with regularity. I know last year, even when the Eagles had McMahon at QB, the Giants were completely healthy, and the Eagles had just as many questions on D, McMahon threw for 296 yards against them in the Meadowlands--and that was with Reggie Brown and Greg Lewis as the starters.

Somehow, I don't think this game is going to be a blowout like everyone expects. Right now, reading the NY papers, they're not getting any respect--and football, more than any other sport, is a game of emotion. And emotion can carry a team for a game. Just look at the Eagles-Cowboys game for an example--the Birds came out all fired up and it really affected the way Dallas started out. If they come out Sunday and punch the Giants in the mouth at their place, it'll shake them up.

we all better stop or our PM boxes will be filling up with some nasty stuff.

I think the Eagles have a shot, not a great one but it definitely isn't a guaranteed loss like the Colts game. Tikis gonna run all over us, we all know that. Eagles can't do too many 3 & outs, and they gotta hope Eli throws the game away. It's possible. :-X

I'd still put my money on the Giants... Bodog has the Eagles getting 6.

For the record...I never buy into the '(insert team here) is on a spiral....blah, blah, blah'. That only works for other teams, not the Eagles. It might as well read '(insert team here)'s plane crashed killing all players on board...fortunately the T-1000's will be activated for game time'

This team can beat any team who has a moderate to crappy run game.
That ain't the Giants.

IF they have any chance at winning this game, they need to have ball control and keep the score low.
Tiki and Jacobs could easily have 100 yard games each.  They need to limit their touches, a big early lead would help.  The more Eli passes, the better off the Birds will be.

But, I'll tell you what really pisses me off.  From a personnel standpoint, this defense is much the same as the one last year, that held LaDanian Tomlinson to 21 yards rushing, and had him under 0 until the 4th quarter.  Yeah, Kearse is gone, and Dawkins has clearly lost a step, but come on.  The difference between this team last year and this year, on defense, is heart.  It ain't there, and the Birds are getting killed because of it.

The Eagles almost certainly lose on Sunday.  But I'll be red-faced, angry and screaming just the same.  And not getting laid because of it.
Anyone but Reid.

Eli Manning sucks ass, IGY.  Stop acting like he's the reincarnation of Johnny Unitas.

yeah because saying hes better than jason campbell is saying hes johnny unitas

makes sense

His being better than Jason Campbell isn't much of an endorsement, IGY.

That's all I was suggesting.   :)

False

QuoteGive up yards,
True.  Everyone on this board should remember that JJ doesn't give a farg about rushing yards.  The Eagles have gone to the NFCCG with one of the worst rushing D's in the league.

Ironically this compensated for AR's pass-happiness by making the other team kill the clock.

Quotekeep opponents out of the endzone,
True.

Quoteand make the big play when it matters.
That's where your memory fails my misguided friend - it wasn't that the D would make a big play, but that they would not give up the big play.

It was all about the number of plays per point baby, and they were chewing up 5+ minutes on every drive.  With McNabb and co. scoring 24+ points/game, the other team didn't have time to catch up.

Guess what - this team is giving up the big play, and they aren't scoring like they used to.  I think the can beat the Giants, but I don't think it is likely that they will.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.
