The Syrian government and rebels have accused each other of using chemical weapons on the battlefield, prompting the United Nations to call for the deployment of an international team of investigators. Both sides have denied using chemical weapons.

The Syrian government has been battling a rebellion for more than two years.

It depresses me how much the Dems mirror Repubs when it comes to national security issues anymore. 

I vote Democrat because most Republicans make me vomit when talking about social issues, but the fact that there's no substantive difference regarding foreign policy & security anymore depresses me.

The drone program is illegal by any metric of int'l law but still continues.   We're now funding Syrian rebels.  NSA is doing the same shtein they were doing under Bush.  Etc etc.

I'm torn about the spying shtein.  I know that data mining has resulted in fewer terrorist incidents.  I mean, just look around.  How many terrorism plots in this country have resulted in mass casualties?  It's not like these bastiches have just collectively decided not to blow shtein up or kill innocent civilians because they've had moral epiphanies.  It's working and I have to say I think it might be worth the the affront to our civil liberties.   Like I said... torn.

How do you know it's working?  They won't tell us anything.  Simply because the terrorists haven't been spectacularly successful too often since 9/11?  How often were they successful before then?  Was it working then?

I'm not convinced it's working, or that it couldn't be done another way.  Secret laws, secret courts, secret prisons, secret domestic spying programs, secret rules by which we are assured it's legal to kill American citizens...unacceptable.
