So Bachmann told a story about a crying woman saying the HPV vaccine caused her child to be mentally retarded, then stated "it's a very real concern", then pretty much every major medical association signed off on a letter telling her how wrong she is, and now she's saying she has no idea if there's a connection or not.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I despise Bachmann more than anything, but that vaccine is seriously disgusting.

A vaccine preventing the spread of a virus that causes like 99.99% of cervical cancer cases is disgusting?

I forgot about this whole vaccine debate thing on here :boom

Do some actual research before jumping into the "believe everything you see" world, kthx.

PG's hatred of vaccines reminds me of SD's hatred for climate science.  Two otherwise generally reasonable people who for some reason have a short circuit on one particular issue.

Bachman's rhetoric here is textbook.  Faced with facts that directly contradict her position, she dissembles with "well, I'm not sure..."  The same strategy as people used to imply that Obama wasn't born in Hawaii.  "Well, I have seen it."  "Well, there are lots of questions out there about..."

It's a very effective way to speak in code to the true believers, the ignorant masses, who spoon feed each other this garbage in churches and Wal Mart parking lots.

Everyone's got one or more topics they'll go batshtein insane over. Thankfully, mine is so nerdy there is no chance it'll ever come up here.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Do you have any scientific research that isn't presented with a slant from an organization that has an anti-vaccine message?

I have not yet read something about the vaccine that makes it sound any more horrible then any other vaccine out there. That is to say, not horrible in the slightest.

From what I remember, I think PG's issue with vaccines was the timing of them or something like that. The schedule with which they were given. If that's true, I can understand that. But being anti-vaccine due to falsified research would be tea party-like.

I won't deni-grate SD's questions about global warming because to him they're legitimate nor will I question PG's suspicions of vaccines.

I will say the science on each of the issues is fairly overwhelming (especially with respect to the vaccine issue) and therefore I side with the prevailing opinions on both.

(Edit - haha... why is deni-grate filtered)

Anyway, it's awful nice of you to let people believe in fairies and dragons, so long as we're clear that they don't exist, and you're just being nice for the sake of being nice.
