im not talking about religion altho its basically one in the same....im talking about the belief in a god...that basic belief is behind all religion and i dont care if you are a zealot or not that is a ridiculous notion that should not be lent credibility

thus acknowledging that there could be gods floating around somewhere is a form of empowerment for the religious

to a certain extent yes but being as rhetorically violent as you are doesnt accomplish anything. just sit it out and let the zealots eventually die out. we dont no preaching against preaching.

Some athiests preach their belief with as much, if not more, evangelical fervor as any itinerant preacher.

Richard Dawkins (not the Family Feud host) comes to mind.  I have zero tolerance for the anti-theists, just as I do for any other fundamentalist.

I agree with this.  I don't talk about my beliefs (or lack there of) unless it comes up in conversation.  I don't tell believers that they are wrong and I don't stand on street corners saying that the bible is a myth.

My thought on religion (or athiesism) is pretty simple.....if it's as great as you say it is, you wouldn't be trying so hard to sell it to me.

I've never once had an atheist interrupt my family dinner knocking at the front door to talk about no-God.  And I've never seen a group of atheists waving bloody posters in front of some building.  Nor have I read about atheists interrupting funerals wakes or prayer services to protest in the name of no god.

With all due respect, I cannot stand the "both sides are equally awful" argument because in point of fact they are not.  There are of course obnoxious atheists just as there are god worshipers, but the numbers of them and the intensity with which they harrass everyone around them do not compare.

What's more, our culture supports and condones people of "faith" in every way.  Imagine the brouhaha we'd still be having if Akers had put up a billboard that thanked the fans while pushing an atheist world view instead of pushing a god-worshiper view.  Think of all those insufferable whack jobs who say "have a blessed day," and no one say boo to them about pushing their faith.

To tell you the truth, the only people that have ever come to my door are Spanish-speaking Jehovah's Witnesses.  When they realize that I don't speak Spanish, they leave.

At a party once we were half-entertained and half-annoyed by a guy that went on a 15-minute tirade about God being nothing but a bogeyman - all because someone said "God bless you" when someone sneezed.  To be fair - I think the guy was about a six-pack deep at that point.

As a Christian myself, I believe that I'm not going to be obnoxious and get in people's faces about "You're going to hell if you don't repent."  That is mainly counter-productive to the goal I would have in mind, and it would be with me as well.

I also make no bones about my faith - if someone asks why I do or don't do certain things, I tell them.  I'm far from perfect, but I firmly believe I am a much better man because of my faith than I would be otherwise.  Without it, I'd be a complete misanthrope.

I don't believe that each side is equally awful.  Just that there are fundies on each side.  I will agree that there are a lot more on the religious side, though.

its not even close and its actually sickening to even make a comparison

i make fun of people who believe in god like people who believe in god make fun of people who believe there are captive aliens in a bunker in roswell right now

but somehow i am part of a group they invented called the atheists....which was invented by god worshippers because without an opponent their stupid thinking isnt nearly as real

QuoteImagine how you would feel if you lost a loved one serving in the military. Your family has paid the ultimate price, protecting the freedoms that all Americans enjoy. And now friends and relatives have gathered at the "National Cemetery" for a funeral service and to pay respects to the departed. However, nothing can proceed until the words of the memorial service have been screened and approved.

Sound a little far-fetched? Well, That's the battle that's been happening between Texas veterans and the Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) for months.

Earlier this year, the (VA) asked that all specific references to God be removed from the Memorial Day ceremonies slated to be held at the Houston cemetery. A judge granted a stay against the VA and the prayers were allowed to go on without government oversight or editing. But the battle continued, despite a very clear warning from the bench:

the judge warned the agency it had stepped too far, saying officials were essentially "decreeing how citizens honor their veterans."
But despite the judge's warning, it seems the censorship has continued. 740 KTRH NewsRadio in Houston has interviewed several people who have experienced it first-hand:

Attorney Jeff Mateer represents the Liberty Institute; he says the cemetery director won't allow the use of "God" or "Jesus" unless the family submits the prayer in writing for her approval.
"In addition, director Arlene Ocasio has stated the National Memorial Ladies cannot tell families 'God Bless,' they cannot communicate in writing or orally," says Mateer.  "And that violates the U.S. Constitution."
Marilyn Koepp is with the National Memorial Ladies.  "I would have been appalled if when the VFW did my father's funeral in 2004, if they could not have said 'God,' what is happening to our country?" she asks.
Vietnam veteran Nobelton Jones hands out shells from the 21-gun salute to families, but says the cemetery director is trying to censor him as well.
"On March 15, she said that at the District 4 ceremony, that I could not say 'We wish that God grant you and your family grace, mercy and peace,' she specifically said that," claims Jones.
"It's just unfair that somebody would ask us to take God out of our vocabulary," Cheryl Whitfield, founder of Houston National Memorial Ladies, told the Houston Chronicle.

"I could've kept my mouth shut and let things happen, but when it comes to standing up for your belief in God and giving comfort to the families, I don't want to regret not saying anything," she added. "We all had to stand up for what we believe in."

Yeah, it does happen the Godless liberal media just refuses to report it.

everyone in that story believes in god...there wasnt an atheist involved

other than that great analogy....its almost just like saying a soldier was KIA because god hates Romes
