I have no doubt that he's dead.  I just don't see the the purpose in not releasing the photo.  And some speech about enraging Muslims and spiking a football doesn't really do it for me, like it apparently does for a lot of you.

I have said repeatedly that I don't care either way. As long as the President gave it thought and took the recommendations of the people who understand the situation best I could care less what they do with them. I just have yet to be presented with a single reason that releasing them would be a benefit to the country or prove anything further (DH's point about the family's of 9/11 victims, not withstanding).

THawk, for years I've read about DNA matches with Osama. It definitely sounds like they have samples but I have no idea how. Maybe family members? No clue.

More families wanting to see the photo.  Also, someone on the Whitehouse PR/Communications Staff need to be fired for addressing a personal e-mail, "Dear 9/11 Family Member"

To your point, what is the argument against releasing it?  Like I said, enflaming Muslims extremists isn't really a legitimate argument?  Photos have been released throughout history of disposed dictators, I really don't see why Osama is any different especially when Gates stated it would be released a day before.

I think the arguments against were already laid out in the quote Dio posted and I re-posted. It's unseemly and unnecessary and would debase our image to the world even if it has zero impact on the actual radicals. I'm all for a private viewing for the families of OBL's victims, and like I said if they released the pictures I wouldn't really care, but I fully understand the explanation that has been presented.

How would it debase our image any more than releasing 2000 additional photos of prisoner abuse??? Like I said, the administration can't argue for full transparency than refuse to release Osama's photo.

as for victims families...if they want to see it i am sure that it will be made available to them

Why is a photo more transparent than DNA evidence, confirmation from US Troops who carried out the assault and his wife identifying him?

People are looking for nonsense non-issues to argue about. Who farging cares if a picture gets released? The dude is dead. farg.

I don't think the photos should be released and I'm sure Osama (sp?) is dead, but how can DNA be used as proof? Did they already have his DNA on file?

I think one point is that looking at the pics, coupled with the US success in eventually getting their man, would give some potential Al Qaida recruits pause. It's one thing to consider being a 'martyr' but it's another when you actually see what your head would eventually look like.

Why did this administration help push to end the 18 year ban on the media using pictures of flag draped coffins of US soldiers?

If I have to see those coffins, I'd like to see dead Osama.  I've already seen his dead son and dead couriers.  Let's see him.
