Of course they knew. They were in a tough position where they had to choose between angering a significant portion of their own population by cooperating 100% with America or angering one of their biggest financiers (the US) by cooperating 100% with al-Qaeda. So they chose something in the middle. They helped America take out scores of al-Qaeda underlings and conduct bombings in their territory so they could continue to reap billions of dollars in US aid, but they definitely kept Obama himself hidden and definitely knew about him.

The question isn't about whether they knew, it's about how we respond now that the truth is out. I have no idea what the right answer is for dealing with a fringe, unstable, nuclear-armed psuedo-ally. Hopefully much smarter people than I have some sort of plan because this has the potential to be ugly.

The response is critical because its a slap in the face. Whether economic sanctions or trade embargoes are the way to go, I don't know.

because he just found out...im not saying he definitely tipped...im saying if he or anyone close to him knew they would have tipped as soon as they found out...but its possible he had no idea about any of this

pretty much...except i disagree that he definitely didnt know...none of what hes saying now would be different had he knew and tipped off the US govt.....either way hes gonna act like he was a clueless bystander

bottom line is bin laden despised him caused him nothing but trouble and was worth nothing to him....where as the US means the world to him...the second he knew he could get bin laden got it would have been done...and this would have been done by tipping the US off...then the US would run an independant operation with the pakistani govt having no knowledge of it and offering no assistance

Pakistan probably shouldn't be called small time. Not only do they have nuclear weapons, but they're not even really an ally of the US as evidenced by their willingness to shelter known terrorists.

Bin Laden getting dead doesn't really mean much...I'm sure there's a Bin Laden Jr (not necessarily related) to take his place
