Former VP hopeful says she'll work for change from outside government



WASILLA, Alaska - Sarah Palin made a surprise announcement Friday that she will resign as governor of Alaska in a few weeks, saying she will try to "affect positive change" from outside government.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate hastily called a news conference Friday morning at her home in suburban Wasilla, giving such short notice that only a few reporters actually made it to the announcement.

She said the decision has been "in the works" for a while and comes after "prayer and consideration" and discussions with her family

Wow, didn't see that coming. Must be more to the story, probably trying to avoid some dirt.

It's bizarre.  Her announcement was a rambling mess.  She's not getting any better at playing in the big leagues.  I gotta believe that she's resigning so she can focus on her national political ambitions, but she wouldn't even say that much by way of explanation.  I don't get how she adds up quitting the job as helpful to her hopes.  I'm sure many people feel the same way.  Except of course her rabid fundie acolytes, but farg them.  They had their day with Bush and now they're dead.
