Class from McCain:

"These are difficult times for our country, and I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face. I urge all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and our ernest effort to find ways to come together, to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger and better country then we inherited. Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans and please believe me when I say, no association has ever meant more to me then that."

Nice vanilla speech by McCain and he threw his nominal support to Obama which was excellent.

His live crowd, on the other hand, should be launched into space.

LOL - Arizona Cardinals fans.

That passage was about 10000 times better than the rest of his speech. Listening to his supporters boo (and did I catch a 'farg Obama' in there?) was a little shameful though. This is why polarizing political parties are the devil.

Karl Rove predicts 338 electoral votes for Obama.

Did anyone on :CF predict more than me at 311?

ABC has it 338-155 with 5 states left (NC, IN, MO, MT, AK)

Yes, they booed, and McCain put both hand up as high as he could, and pleaded with them to be quiet. The man went out with class, no matter what the crowd did.

broad and cecil was insane. a lot blacker than when the phillies won the nlcs, but still great. i may head out to city hall after the speech, thats where everyone is makin their way.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Historic night.

I wish some of the major players in the civil rights movement were able to see this. Obviously MLK being number one, but all those who fought against the cowardice and ignorance back then to see just 40+ years later we have a black man as our leader.

Amazing and I am glad to see it happen. I think he is going to be a phenomenal president.

@ Ed: As of right now Obama is ahead in 4 of those remaining 5 states. My faith in his ability to be bipartisan is dwindling by the second.

@ Shore: McCain was everything he needed to be. In fact, he was more genuine than he appeared while arguing Obama on policy points. No shame to McCain at all. That crowd though, yikes.

Had McCain appeared that human at all during his campaign, I've got to believe this would have been much closer. Probably helped somewhat that he wasn't babysitting Palin.

The man. The myth. The legend.

PhillyPhreak54

McCain was indeed classy. And the crowd should be lit on fire.

His joker repub handlers were hands off it seemed and the speech was from his own words.

Palin was nothing if not human. Too much so for most people who can think their way out of a paper bag. McCain on the other hand never looked comfortable during this campaign.

Think about it, a black American is now president. I never thought I would see this moment in my lifetime. It's one of the greatest moments ever in the history of America. It conveys a great deal of what America is supposed to stand for.

I hope the man is up to the challenge.
