There is a subset of the population that bucks all social norms and will vote for a party that actively dislikes them based on one (or a few) issues.

your right. actually in terms of social conservatism Muslims and the Republicans fit right in. i guess the only way you justify it is that you look at it from a outsiders view as to how it would affect things back in the motherland.

i asked my dad about that during the 00 election and his basic answer was "what difference does it make...most of their policies are the same domestically....i want to vote for someone who might help things back home". of course that was before 911 and not a very informed view of how the parties work or what the differences are.

So Palin parted from McCain on the marriage amendment. She wants to amend the constittion to ban Gay marriage but in the debate she said she was for civil unions. What does that mean exactly? Does that mean the constitution would prevent churches from allowing Gay marriage amongst their flock but the government will give Gay couples all the same rights as long as it's called a civil union?

So the constitutional amendment will dictate to churches what they can and can't define no matter their affiliation? Is that right? Is there a Right winger on the board that can explain this to me? I really just wanna know. It seems unreal.

so wait...first youre saying that everything biden is saying is true...then youre saying its all crap and the people who believe this crap have already decided to vote for mccain

if what biden is saying is true as you say then there are tons of independants and undecideds who like obama but are scared by his inexperience and its something exactly like this that could scare them off
