I understand it's figure of speech and all, and the choice of words doesn't bother me (gun, knife, etc).  Anyone that takes it literal and makes a deal out of that is a little simple.

But, I think this plays well in Philly, but not so much outside of the northeast.  Talking about fights, picking on a group of people - it smells like old time politics... exactly what he has been saying his campaign isn't and won't be.  Also, the people I know (midwesterners) actually did find the language of guns and knives a little offensive (like I said - simple people).  And these are Dems.

I don't know. Maybe it's not a big deal, but there's just something about it that doesn't feel right.  It's like an actor putting on an old western costume, and pretending to be a cowboy.

I'm glad Obama will fight McCain.  The democrats have too long appeared weak in the face of dirty attacks and the politics of fear by deferring to engage in kind.

Not sure what he was trying to do here, but it does stink of making an attack while appearing to be a victim. 

that comment was also said in jest and if you heard it rather than read it youd understand...he was smiling and laughing as he said it

but at the same time it was his way of saying im not getting swiftboated this time around and that the right wing hate machine is going to be stood up to...never once did he talk about attacking anyone only about defending himself...

the ironic thing is if he went the kerry way youd be complaining that hes to soft and if he becomes president we are all gonna be killed by terrorists...imo this is a perfect way of staying in the middle...hes saying hes not gonna attack but if he has to defend himself he going all out against the mongrels

It's comments like this that scare the hell out of my  - they seem to prove his level of inexperience.

even if you are offended by the comment which no one was (you know this happened like four days ago) in what even small way does this have to do with inexperience...not that inexperience means much as some of out best presidents were newbies and some of our worst had been filled with "experience"

IGY defending Obama tooth and nail...

All it says is that he isn't as polished a populist as he would like to be. The truth is that Republican candidates say imflamatory shtein all the time, and no one says shtein about it because people expect it. The difference is that the vast majority of Republican candidates don't claim to be populists and so don't have to worry about being called to task on inflamatory rhetoric. Obama needs to tighten his shtein up if he's going to play the all-things-to-all-people card.
