I've never understood why they don't just have a kill switch for when their two minutes are done, and just turn the camera to the other candidate. And just to be clear, by kill switch I mean for the microphones, I think.

I agree. They should disengage from the person totally once the allotted time is up. Just cut the damn thing off and turn the camera away.

So I was thinking of you earlier because I figured you would know the answer to a dinner table question my 11 year old had:  What happens if Trump drops dead of a heart attack tomorrow?  You have to be alive to be elected.  I don't know what would happen.  He asked, what if Trump dies tomorrow, but the Trump/Pence ticket -- he didn't use the word "ticket," but that's what he meant--still wins the election...does that make Pence President-Elect?  Who would be Vice-President?

I never actually punch anyone.  I'm a lover, not a fighter.  Just want to some times.   

That scenario is unprecedented, and would be an interesting Constitutional question.

Since we're still this far out and most states haven't even begun early voting, the Republicans would try to change the ballot, probably to Pence, as he would be the new President for the rest of this term.

If it's too late and Trump would win, I believe that Pence, as the duly elected VP, would become the new president.

Back in the day it would have just been as simple as the party picks a new candidate (probably Pence) and that's that, everyone votes on the new ticket in November. But these days with mail in voting and early voting and all the ballots being made in most of these states already, I truly have no idea. I would assume it would play out as you say, where the voters vote for the ticket itself and the electors choose choose the party that wins.

Congress could also move the election to a later date i believe.
