Have any of you ever looked into leaving the United States permanently in a serious manner?

My hot nurse wife will hold a doctorate from an internationally renowned university in less than two years, with 15 years or so experience as a floor nurse at an internationally renowned hospital, two four-year bachelor degrees, one in nursing and another in liberal arts, and is bilingual.  I'm starting to think seriously about whether there isn't a place we could move to that would value her skills and credentials enough to open their borders to us.  My skills are common, of course. 

Anyone really looked into it?

Yes.

It's been years ago now but when I was dating the Peruvian girl we talked about me living there. That was when I wasn't in the position I'm in now at work.

I was going to immerse myself into the life there and take spanish classes and look for work with an American company.

The odds of it happening then was 20% but we looked into it. Back then though the dollar was a helluva lot stronger than it is now. And also Americans weren't looked at with disdain like now in a lot of places.

I'm sure with her degrees and your abilities you'd be able to find a situation that works. Of course that's if we get Covid under control and countries will actually accept Americans.

The Commonwealth countries are you best bet. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland if they ever vote to leave the UK and rejoin the EU.

It goes a lot smoother if you have whatever employer she's looking into handling the visa stuff, but then you're outta luck if they decide to let her go.

I've already looked into Ireland.  It's doable for us due to our ancestry.

A girl I know lives in Dublin.  She's from Philly.  Her dad is Philly ex-popo.   She's got dual-citizenship and thankfully got the hell out of here in February before Covid hit.   They're doing well there now.
