People got uglier, richer, less interested in equality and decency and more interested in blaming everyone else for their problems.  The right wing media capitalized on that and fueled it to the point where we actually elected a sociopath to the White House.

All empires fall.  Ours is just the latest.

i dont think the alt right or the tea party or the average trump voter and myself are divided because we are distracted

No, but you also have to understand that those people really don't make up the majority.  Not even close.  And you also have to understand that people like you who are way left on most things also don't make up the majority.  But the people who chill in the middle are typically only separated on the political spectrum by a few differences of opinion and probably agree on more things than they realize.  However, the divide and conquer tactics that the media uses takea a perfectly normal, non-crazy person who identifies with some conservative talking points...say national security, lower taxes, and low skill/manual labor type job creation (manufacturing, mining, etc).  So this person identifies with those things (which are all things that many people would find appealing) and he says to himself "I like those things, so I guess that makes me conservative."

Since the media (and this is left and right media) is absolutely hellbent on presenting an Us or Them atmosphere to pretty much everything, it puts people in a position where they feel as though they need to adopt basically all of the party positions in order to feel like they belong with that particular group of people.  A person's need for inclusion is an extremely powerful aphrodisiac. And since most people form their opinions on things based on their own very specific circumstances, they tend not to think big picture.  And you can really say the same about most dems/libs, too, it just sounds less crazy because you happen to support that ideology, but it really is the same.

You don't honestly think it isn't an us vs them situation, do you?

Please tell me you're not naive enough to think those with money couldn't give less of a farg about those that don't.  Please??

my point was the rich love all of the division between the 98%. its what they want. keeps people from focusing on the real issue.

theres been poll after poll that has overwhelmingly said that trump voters voted for trump because of his white ideology and even if you didnt vote for him because of that it didnt bother you enough to not vote for him....thats a big problem

he won the presidency...this isnt some fringe movement...was it the majority no....hillary won the popular vote...was it close to the majority of voters yes

I watched Frank Zappa's "Eat That Question" doc last night. Good stuff. But in response to a criticism about his salty language, he said this:

Quote
There is no such thing as a dirty word. There is no word, nor any sound, that you can make with your mouth that is so powerful that it will condemn you to the lake of fire at the time when you hear it. 'Dirty words' is a fantasy manufactured by religious fanatics and government organizations to keep people stupid. Any word that gets the point across is a good word. If you wanna tell somebody to 'get farged,' that's the best way to tell him.

(Ironically the CF filter is working as usual.)

Still...I do tend to dial it back depending on the situation.
