Obviously a lot can happen between now and then, but if Booker runs I think he's almost guaranteed to take the nomination. He has less baggage than Clinton, is young, good looking, and has a shteinton of charisma and likability.

The only ones I see possibly being tough for him is if Bernie or Warren run.

I wouldn't mind seeing VP Biden Pt. 2 with Booker....just sayin.

Another busy day in politics is in full swing, as President-elect Donald Trump holds a long-awaited news conference at Trump Tower in New York and three of his Cabinet choices face sharp questions on Capitol Hill.

Trump's nominee to be secretary of state, former ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson, is appearing now before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Tillerson faces questions about his ties to Russia during the time he was leading the international oil giant.

"We must also be clear-eyed about our relationship with Russia," Tillerson told senators. "Russia today poses a danger, but it is not unpredictable in advancing its own interests."

Jeff Sessions, picked to be the next attorney general, enters his second day of questioning and will hear unprecedented testimony from colleague Sen. Cory Booker, a Democrat, against his nomination. Trump's choice for transportation secretary, Elaine Chao, also has her hearing today.

The President-elect's news conference, scheduled for 11 a.m. ET, took on new significance following CNN reporting that classified documents included allegations that Russian operatives claim to have compromising personal and financial information about Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump's nominee to be US envoy to the world broke with his future boss on a number of key foreign policy issues. Former ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson, speaking at his Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmation hearing, backed the Trans-Pacific Partnership, denounced Russian aggression in cyberspace and Ukraine, and affirmed his belief in climate change.

President-elect Donald Trump's defense and CIA nominees both opened their confirmation hearings Thursday by recognizing the threat posed by Russia and Vladimir Putin.

"Russia has reasserted itself aggressively, invading and occupying Ukraine, threatening Europe, and doing nothing to aid in the destruction and defeat of ISIS," said Rep. Mike Pompeo, Trump's pick for CIA director.

Ret. Gen. James "Mad Dog" Mattis, Trump's nominee for defense secretary, also had strong words against Putin.

"I think right now the most important thing is that we recognize the reality of what we deal with Mr. Putin, and we recognize that he is trying to break the North Atlantic alliance."

The Justice Department's internal watchdog has launched a probe of the department and the FBI's handling of investigations into Hillary Clinton's private email server, the DOJ announced Thursday.

The announcement, which was expected, comes after criticism of the department's handling of the investigation, particularly on how the public was notified. The email probe was a major issue on the 2016 campaign trail.
