NYT got a hold on dickheads 1995 taxes and he claimed a $916M loss

That apparently allowed him to avoid paying any taxes for 18 years

I don't think anyone disputes that racism can run in any direction, and that it's not a good thing..  It's not an American invention, afterall.  But the racism that matters here, is not the few white dudes who have been unfairly treated when they are in the minority in some very specific situation.  I'm a white dude in a black city, I'd been called things, threatened.  Of course it's racist and not right, and all that...but in the face of the suffering endured by black people in the Unites States, one can't honorably raise the alarm over the racism that a few white people are victimized by.
I think this point of view has some validity. And you can also view it, rather than a 'my racism is much worse than your racism,' ANY racism only serves to stir the pot, set off one side or the other, and add to the general vitriol and imo ignorance. This is debilitating for any society. A much more constructive view is not to antagonize others in the first place, at least if you want to genuinely reconcile differences. If CNN put up a quote stating "I hate white people" and did a poll of whether this is racist or not, the overwhelming response would be yes (just as "I hate black people" would and should be). This rhetoric is divisive and inflammatory. It just fans the flames. If people want to indulge this fine, but if they truly want reform and to make things better they have to allow for diversity in points of view. Not agree with them. Not support them. Not necessarily even willing to work with them. But maybe take the high road and not antagonize and contribute the inexorable escalation and destructive lose/lose that has such serious consequences for us all.

Nothing screams qualified to be president like $916M in business losses. Or exploiting those loopholes to do such.

And they reportedly were sent to the paper from someone at Trump Tower

That's funny

What's the point of this portrait?

A call to bridge the compassion divide?

Am I supposed to pity this person?  I'd be heartless not to.  Only Laquanishia on Biddle had it worse.  But hell, opportunities to become something other than a troll this woman had,  and she availed herself of none.   That was because she couldn't, or wouldn't?  Who knows?  If you say the former, you're a bleeding heart padding to the kill pen, if the latter, you're an elitist shareholder in the same slaughterhouse.

Or maybe it's a warning siren, calling our attention to danger?

Am I to fear her?  I'd be foolish not to.  Keep your eyes on the barbarians in the hills.  When they come out their caves, be ready.  Not much sense in asking how the threat became deadly as it's marching on you.  At some point, you have to decide if you're going to fight or not when they're at the gates.

When do you write someone off, if ever?  What would Jesus do?  What would Kant do?

For now, I'll stick to science and stay the hell away from her and her ilk.

p.s.  The piece reminded me very strongly of one I read about that human obscenity Dylan Roof and the frightening group of misfits from which he issued.  I have no idea what to make of it.  Revulsion, fear, pity...guilt?  Am I supposed to feel some responsibility for these farging people?  I object to that insinuation, if it's there.

My takeaway, besides a determination that people like her need serious mental healthcare, is one of the biggest dangers of Trump's candidacy is its normalized a large portion of the fringe right.  I'm sure on some level there was a sense of righteousness and validity before Trump, but it has brought these lunatics and conspiracy theorists into the mainstream because most on the right politically are too cowardly to call it what it is (see: Ryan, Paul).   They fear their political capital too much to disavow and correct these people.

PhillyPhreak54

I agree with EL and that's how I see it.

Trump's rise has empowered these people. Hucksters like Rush and Hannity and the worst of the worst Alex Jones prey on these people.

BUT WE HAVE SO MUCH IN COMMON!  WE MUST REACH OUT TO HER!!

:-D

PhillyPhreak54

Yep it's depressing to be honest.

We get to do this again in four years. Except it'll be with Cruz and Paul Ryan

Rome

It's not depressing.  It's illuminating.  It's a warning that those people are the norm, not some sort of outlier.

I asked an Eagles acquaintance why he was still supporting Trump after all of the crap that's come out and he said (paraphrasing), "it's time for someone to lead this country who has a pair of balls... who won't go crawling to Iran to beg for a peace deal, who will crack the skulls of those BLM scumbags, and who will put the gays back into their closets where they belong."

Then he said, "I know you're a good guy but your pansy liberal beliefs will lead you into the pit of Hell.  I pray for you and your soul."

I've known this guy for years.  He's never said anything like this to me.  EVER.  I was stunned to put it mildly.  I never knew he held these beliefs even though I knew he was a "born again" Christian etc.  He's an Eagles fan and we have that in common.  Ironically he hates Rick Scott because Rick Scott took money out of his pocket.  Thinks he's a farging traitor to working people like him.

That's white America, guys.  They're out there stewing in their ignorant displaced rage and Trump has given them license to out themselves with pride.  That's the depressing part.  Dio's right.  This is all coming to a head and you'd better be prepared for it.
