Hillary to announce she's running Saturday 1/20   :puke

Hillary being named the Democratic candidate is the only chance the Republicans have to win the 2008 election, in my opinion.

Actually, I don't think you can underestimate the stupidity of the average American, in both "blue" and "red" states alike, and I also don't think you can overestimate how much a political climate can change in 20 months or how capable the DNC is of screwing the pooch.

Also, I think you're giving America as a whole too much credit if you think Obama has a better chance of winning than Hillary.  There are plenty of racists alive and well among lighter and darker skinned people, and both sides see Obama as part of the other side.

Yup.  Which is precisely why she will never be President.

I don't believe that Obama will win the nomination, much less a general election.  Hillary has too much political power and money for him to have much of a chance.

And I agree that the political landscape can change greatly before next November.  My theory is simply that Hillary will most likely not be able to win a general election, mostly because the conservative base that is currently in disarray would be galvanized anew by their collective hatred of all things Hillary.

There are no Republican potential candidates (as of now) that would be able to generate much positive excitement among the conservative base, or have enough charisma to attract enough moderate voters to overcome the deficit.  The closest would be Giuliani, but I don't believe that he'll win over the conservatives enough to win the nomination.  McCain's just a retread, Rice isn't showing me much as secretary of state.  The possibilities of Gingrich, Frist or Romney being the nominations are almost laughable.

So, let me change my wording:  In the current political climate, the only way that the Democrats lose the 2008 election is to nominate Hillary.

Obama has recently gotten some of the best press I've ever seen a politician get. It's up there with fall 2001 Giuliani press. It'll be interesting to see how the stories on Obama shift as the ol' Clinton political machine shakes off its cobwebs and gets fired up against him.

More than likely it will start off by emphasizing his lack of experience, which would be a bit ironic since when Bill Clinton ran in 1992, his main experience was as governor of Arkansas.

This won't get really good for another year, but it is shaping up to be an interesting election cycle.

Kansas Senator Sam Brownback joins GOP presidential field

Here's a guy who pisses off Republican moderates through his being the leading social conservative in the Senate, and pisses off Republican conservatives by opposing the troop surge in Iraq and embracing the White House's immigration stance. I'm sure he'll do just swell in the primaries.

Arnold is not eligible to run for President.  Oh shucks!

It would be ironic if he ran against Gore, and Gore was the only one with an Oscar.
