@Wing:

Those people are here already. Are you suggesting a massive mobilization to expel people from our country? You think the world doesn't like us now, just wait until we're shoving the brown folks who are making less than minimum wage into trucks and ushering them south.

No. Not at all. Let them be as is. If they get caught, fine, if not, fine.

Then you change nothing.

Ahhhhhhh, I'm done with this convo, some feel one way, some another. My feeling were known pages and pages ago. Nothing will be done.

Not wasting money, providing jobs. Especially jobs that current illegals have while working under the table and not paying taxes, that could be filled by legal Americans.
lol.  If legal americans wanted those jobs, they would have it.  You just killed your own argument.  IF they become legal, have to pay taxes, there is no difference from Joe six pack.  The thing that worries you is their work ethic.  I worked with illegals from mexico/guatemala for years doing landscaping and irrigation.  This was under the current system, and we could never get regular americans to do the work because they were always drunks, druggies, or ex cons and always only lasted at the most two months.

Damn, I try to get out.......and they pull me back in.

This is a tired old argument. I am in no way worried about the work ethic of a illegal Mexican. The truth is that the company you worked for payed a crappy wage  that no one but a illegal could live on because most don't  pay taxes. All the while, cutting the throat of the honest business man.

Fact is that the employers that employ the illegals are the ones who should be made to pay.

what you aren't acknowledging is, If you dont change the system, nothing CHANGES.  They don't have the time or money to dedicate to focusing on businesses other than big stores like the Walmart bust, and large operations.

Its estimated that there are an estimated 7 million illegal immigrants in the US. Too many to realistically lock up or expel. So what do you do?

Reagan when confronted with this problem in the 80's gave amnesty but never 'secured the borders'. Why? Because it is not realistic to think that you could completely lock down miles of land through deserts and mountains. You can do a better job surely but this isn't a problem that is going to go away.

Building a wall would be the biggest waste of tax payer money and might just totally break the back of the government in trying to complete it. Not to mention the fact that no wall has ever successfully kept people out or in historically.

i dont blame mccain for being on edge and constantly slipping up.

first of all he is old. this is not to be offensive but he 72. it a grind every single day. interviews, rallies, and plenty more.

to top it off he has to constantly play to the republican base while constantly disagree with his own views of the past. there is a reason he earned the maverick nickname...it was not for being a typical republican just spewing out talking points. as it has been pointed out many times now...he says something today which contradicts completely with something he said in 2000 or just a few months ago. he has no control over it. its his handlers and the campaign. sometimes i wonder if he was set up by the RNC since they knew this election would be very hard to win anyway.

btw a example of mccain contradicting himself, from last nights daily show episode on the subject of socialism:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2JPbQOHEkY

on to colin powell. i loved every single word of his 7 min plus speech on meet the press when endorsing obama. i esp loved the part where he brought up the american soldier who happened to be of muslim faith and passed away recently. he basically called out the mccain/palin campaign on the race, religion, and fear baiting. BUT a part of me wonders how credible he is after it was his LIED and false evidence which led to the iraq war and which led to the deaths of thousands of ppl in iraq. all of a sudden he has a moral epiphany? where was this truth when it mattered most?

oh well at least he said it. some of the left are even afraid to bring up the subject.

There are some legitimate concerns about wether this is a fake or not. Although it has a printed seal, there is no stamped seal. Also back in '61', Obama's fathers race would have been listed as 'negro'.

Except that he wasn't an American.  He was Kenyan.  You know.  From Africa.  African.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

African would have been his nationality. Does your birth certificate say American?? Or maybe Canadian?? No, it probably says Caucasian.

I'd like to point out here that this reasoning doesn't go far enough.  The people who hire these contractors are just as much to blame.   Joe the Accountant gives the job to the lowest bidder, knowing damn well who will do the work.  Then he goes online and complains about the illegals and the people who employ them.

And why stop at the homeowner?  Why is the homeowner paying the lowest possible price?  I think it's because he can't afford to pay a contractor a price that would allow the workers a living wage.  He himself, the homeowner, in fact, is struggling to make ends meet because his earning power has gone down down down as the wealth of the nation has been passed up the chain to the wealthiest.  His job 40 years ago would support his entire family, and he could afford to pay the painter a reasonable wage.  Now, his wife works, his kids are being raised by daycare, and he hires the cheap estimate company knowing full well what he is doing.

You want to blame the illegal, then you gotta blame the employer, the people who patronize the employer, and the bastiches who don't pay him a fair wage.

Not that I care one way or the other, but black folk from Africa are, and were, listed as African and not negro.
