Tax code simplification and reform across the board is absolutely one of the most underrated issues out there.

Agreed completely. Niether major party genuinely wants to reform the tax code. It badly needs to be done but it is the government's number one money maker and niether party wants to be known as the one that took a major risk and farged it up.

Penalizing any class rich or poor during an economic down turn is extreme in my book. I don't think government has as much to do with the economy as we think anyway but they should do their best to stay out of the way for the most part. Other then that encourage growth of business large and small.

As for McCain there's nothing earth shattering in his plan either. Make per menant the Bush tax cuts. I know we like to say those cuts are for the wealthiest Americans. I'm not rich and I benefited from those cuts. With gas prices and commodity prices going up how exactly are my tax dollars going to help the country? How is the government going to spend our tax dollars to "fix" the economy? I'm not seeing it. Energy prices are high and the credit market is farged because of some slimy sales types selling to anyone no matter their situation. Handing out money is a temporary bump that will just delay the real issue. Government regulation? Government hand outs? None of that has a history of working. I don't know the answer but neither does anyone else.

That extends well outside the tax system issues as well.

I couldn't agree with this whole sentiment any more thoroughly.

What ever happened to Digital Underground?

Not sure exactly.  But it's amazing to look back at how ahead of their time they were.  They were Digital when the rest of the world was still analog.  Craziness.

hey i hope youre right and he blasts the rich with more taxes

WHY? Just because you're not?
Someone else just said it on here, but if you hammer rich business owners with taxes the poor are still going to be the ones that feel it!

People always hate the rich because they assume that they are somehow inherently evil.

1. IGY is rich, as has been discussed repeatedly.
2. Taxes are what makes civilization possible.
3. Who do you propose pay the taxes that are responsible for improving our atrocious education system, police force, armed forces, mail service, road and infrastructure maintenance etc etc etc etc? Tax the wealthy more than the middle class, tax the middle class more than poor. It's an obvious solution and a fair one at that.

I'm not even sure I know or understand what qualifies as middle class any more. I know that what I make would have been considered a lot 15 years ago, but it doesn't feel like a lot and it definitely doesn't feel upper class... how is this shtein calculated?

It depends on how it suits the politicians' platforms.

sorry man, i dont care what shtein you throw out, raising taxes never helps the economy

QuoteIt is naive to think that the U.S. could simply pull the military presence and rebuild the infrastructure, with the current state of things over there.

The current state of things over there is that Iraqis still hate our occupation and still want us out of there. We've destroyed their buildings, killed their family members, neighbors and friends.

On the other hand if we were to approach Vietnam (who we also royally farged) and say "hey, would you like some help building this road or this this school" something tells me they would be like "yea, sure".

Maybe there's just something about having an occupying force in your country that gets these folks all uppity. Who woulda thunk it. It's not like our own country has any similar experience to draw from?

As if the Bush administration truly gave a farg about these people or their infrastructure anyhow.

rjs246

ThirdStreet... I'm talking about benefitting the country as a whole, not necessarily the economy. But whatever. People amaze me. All it takes for someone to get a political following is to say the words 'lower taxes' and suddenly the sheep line up to graze. Lowering taxes won't help what's wrong with this country and it sure as shtein won't help us get out of this massive pit of debt that we've dug ourselves into.

holy crap what a horrible post

i am "rich" and would be happy to pay more taxes...as mentioned by rjs tax distribution is the problem not tax revenue....not enough of the collected money makes it to the right peoples places or things

one example...id gladly take a tax hit if it meant the country getting out of this housing crisis...in the big picture its about my pesonal beliefs number one of which is that i believe in helping those less fortunate than me...small picture is my house is currently on the market and i cant sell it because theres three foreclosures on my street that are destroying my houses value

also right now raising taxes strictly for the purpose of paying down the national debt would be a great idea...of course spending needs to be slashed as well but to say raising taxes never helps the economy is retarded...it might not always help YOU but it can and has helped the economy in a larger sense
