No, it's not a big deal--everyone gets to talk how they like--but it's a real deal.  All the power of the slur turns on gender, even when it's used a against a man.  To call a man a bitch is to challenge his prescious macho ego.  It's an attempt to rob him of manhood and make him nothing more than a female.  The word is tainted for me.  I'm training myself to drop it from my vocab for everyone, even those who most deserve an insult.

I think it is different.  Men aren't disparaged for being male.  There is no perjorative usage of maleness.  To call someone a fleshpop is not to hinge the insult on his sex.  But to use the B or C word is to hang it all on being female.

I dont' know, I thought it was worth poinitng out that our language and culture are so full of hate for women that we can't think of a more disgusting thing to call a man, than a slur for a woman.  Perhaps it will help some of our many readers who don't get it. 

I don't know..I have a hang up about it lately.  If I was a woman and had to tolerate a whole society talking like this and acting it's cool....what an affect that must have.  You hear women shat upon from before you even know it's happening, and men don't come in for the same treatment.  Bad juju.

i appreciate what you are saying and if thats your thing i respect it i just dont think calling a women a bitch is in the top 1000 things to worry about...if a guy calls another guy flag or a Hoyda im stepping to them...if a women is being an icehole and someone calls her a bitch im not thinking twice about it..thats just me
