President Obama has a clearly delineated constitutional duty to nominate a replacement for Scalia.  It's not even a question, so why is this ridiculous clown even suggesting that he should shirk that duty?

I think Obama will try to install someone who will be so obviously qualified and non-controversial that the Republicans will have to let it happen, or face ruinous backlash for their obstructionism.  Sri Srinivasin is the most prominent example of such a candidate.  Not a liberal firebrand, broadly respected, recently supported by McConnell, Rubio, Cruz, etc.  No way late term Obama lets this opportunity pass.  He'll win this one.

He was unanimously confirmed by the Senate (97-0) so of course he'd have no shot at being confirmed for the SCOTUS.

Article II Section 2 of the Constitution says the President of the United States nominates justices to the Supreme Court, with the advice and consent of the Senate. I can't find a clause that says "...except when there's a year left in the term of a Democratic President."

Senate Republicans took an oath just like Senate Democrats did. Abandoning the duties they swore to uphold would threaten both the Constitution and our democracy itself. It would also prove that all the Republican talk about loving the Constitution is just that — empty talk.

but of course this is the issue with the senate that it is not an accurate representation of america. worthless mongoloid infested states like wyoming and montana have 2 senators, just like actual relevant places like california and maryland.

Backlash from who?  Their own party?  Their voters?  Not in a million years.  Obviously there will be backlash from the left, but that hasn't stopped the gop from being obstructive for the last 7 years. Why would this suddenly change that?  If John Boehner or Paul Ryan would have pulled out a gat and put one in the back of Barry's dome during the SOTU on live tv, the right would applaud it from the top all the way down to the youngest, newest registered republican.  If the gop wants to obstruct this, they will, and practically no one within their party will object to it. Bidness as usual.

backlash fromn the general electorate....if they perceive the GOP as blocking a nominee purely for political purposes, the general electorate will not give them good results in 2016.
