Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

You have to pay to go to temple/be a member of one?

Let's not get carried away.  You don't want to be born a female to an orthodox family...pretty similar to being born female to some jihadist family in Pakistan, or to Mormons.

Come to think of it, it's not good to be born with two X chromosomes in most religions.

All this debate about my religious beliefs!

For the record:  I belong to a United Methodist Church.  Far from fundamentalist.  And not part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Politically, I'd say I was center, trending left.  I don't really trust either political party.  They're both beholden to the billionaires and special interests.  I voted for Obama both times.

One thing that I love about my church is that it tries to be active in the community in positive ways.  We've been working with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, trying to get companies to agree to the "Fair Food Agreement" that gives the migrant workers basic necessities, like a bathroom near where they're working, a living salary.  McDonalds and Wal-Mart have actually signed on... we'll see if they follow through...

I'm also a firm believer in the First Amendment - which is meant as much to protect churches from undue influence from the government as to protect the government from undue influence from the church(es) - a response to the state-supported and dominated Church of England.  If you profess atheism, that is your natural right as an American citizen.

We have two three clients who don't make bathrooms available for us when we work on their properties, combined about 30 days a year or so on average.  I literally have to wander off into the woods with a shovel and some TP.  The landscaping crews don't bother with the shovel.  It's amazing to me that these people can be so inconsiderate.

I round my bills way up for them because of it.

edit:  three, actually...now that I think of it maybe four...anyway, you get the point

basically yes if you want to definitely have a seat for high holidays and get your kid bar mitzvahed, etc.

if you just generally want to go to a random service on a saturday they of course let anyone in. thats how the reform and conservative jews do it. the hippie jews (called reconstructionist) have their own style, generally one that's cost-efficient. that ortho's and hassids (the dudes with the hats and the curly sideburns) are subhuman and what they do is irrelevant.

theres extremes in all religions of course...but in america over the past decade or so the fringe seems to be moving closer and closer to the center when it comes to christians

where as there hasnt been any noticable shift in american judaism

orthodox jews make up such a small percentage of jews. and they mostly keep to themselves. they arent politically active like fundy's are. part of that is because 35% of the time its some stupid holiday and they cant use electricity.

but really those people want to live in their own communities, disparage their own women and shut themselves off from the fact that its not the year 25 anymore. they arent going to congress demanding everyone worship jesus.
