of course not but yeah like igy said it can't be so cut and dry. you think labeling a high school student a sex offender for hooking up with another high school student is a good idea?

I see both sides of it. 

Obviously, the initial thought of labeling a high school kid as a sex offender for life because they had consensual sex with a schoolmate sounds ridiculous. 

At the same time though, 18 is 18.  I guarantee you that just like every other teenager, she was looking forward to becoming a legal adult.  Now she's being treated like one and doesn't like it. 

So what do you do?  Do you adjust the legal age of adulthood and push it back to 20 or 21?  Do you leave it at 18 but put some sort of exemption clause in there that excludes 18 yr old high school students from being charged as adults?

I'm all for looking at other options as long as they make sense.

Pretty much.  My ex had all of these stupid pre-determined ages in place from the day my kids were born in regards to when they can do this or that.  No doing this until this age, no doing that until that age.  She also had a "no dating until 16" policy.  My daughter had her 1st boyfriend at 13.  I thought it was great because my ex was so furious about it and I guess she expected me to be angry as well.  I wasn't.  13 is a good age for your first date is what I told her.  This just enraged her even more, which amused me even more too.  Not to mention that she got so pissed at me that she more or less forgot that she was pissed at my daughter for going out with a boy. 

So yeah, that just goes to show you how much kids really care about what parents have to say.

Does 15 equal 18? How about 16 and 17? Juveniles are tried as adults because they either exhibited criminal intent or their crimes were determined to be abhorrently heinous. Throwing the book at this girl, or any other "adult" in a similar situation, is a miscarriage of justice.

I'm saying in this case, and assumedly many like it, charging her with a felony is extreme. Misdemeanors can still dole out jail time as part of the sentence to help ensure she's rehabilitated and poses no future risk to our society.
