Raising a percent is skyrocketing by 1 to 1.5 percent?  Someone needs to teach you about the statistical margin of error.  ;)  Why are poverty rates so high under Obama?  What happened to your trend? Shouldn't they have started to dip significantly?

QuotePreviously the average recession since World War II lasted 10 months, with the longest at 16 months.  Yet today, 40 months after the last recession started, unemployment is still 8.8%, with America suffering the longest period of unemployment that high since the Great Depression.  Based on the historic precedents America should be enjoying the second year of a roaring economic recovery by now, especially since, historically, the worse the downturn, the stronger the recovery.  Yet while in the Reagan recovery the economy soared past the previous GDP peak after six months, in the Obama recovery that didn't happen for three years.  Last year the Census Bureau reported that the total number of Americans in poverty was the highest in the 51 years that Census has been recording the data.

Don't you want to talk about Carter's massive failure with Israel & Egypt some more?  Or how about SALT II or the Panama Canal Treaties or normalization of relations with China?

Jackass.

I'll talk about Obama's failure with the Arab Spring and allowing the Muslim Brotherhood to rise to power instead.

I'm not picking a fight here...just general observation.

Whether is was the Ecoptic Christians or the Muslim Brotherhood...it shows weakness on us and other countries that try to force their own puppet into power to serve their interests. I can't believe (yes I can) that the world runs like this. Instead of us standing on our own two feet, regardless of the situation...its not...its ok, in Egypt we have puppets, in Iran, we don't, can't make a move without full protection of Isreal, but we now have Libya in our pocket, but china is a friend with the pakistanis, we're just the absentee father who gives money to his pakistani kid, we are cool with India, but they do whatever the farg they want yet we have to kiss their ass, etc., etc. etfargingcetera.

Instead of working with governments and help/force them to guarantee basic rights so that their form of government can be long lasting (with its own problems of course)...its more like, ok, let's put out the fire on this side of the world, so we can concentrate on these other fires, and back and forth for decades and centuries and eons. There's something wrong with that. I may be naive...but Jesus...it just shows how big a hole we have dug ourselves into with past foreign policy decisions. It's like we're the world's farging foreign policy McDonalds and eveyrone is putting their order in and we are trying to make sure everyone is happy with our service.

we could get intothe vast differences between the economic downturn of 1980/81 and the one of 2008, and things like what volker did to help solve the 81 downturn that couldn't be done in the 08 downturn...but I imagine you wouldn't want to get into that much detail. So we'll keep it reletively simple; The economic shrinkage of 2008 was the 2nd worst in recent history, and was the perfect storm of a lot of things going on at once, whereas 81 was more a cyclical downturn. There isn't one piece of legislation that you can point to that is an Obama piece that you could specifically tell me why said piece is preventing a better recovery. The recovery, much like the cause, is vastly different than 81 for different reasons

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Obama and Hilary did get involved in Egypt though.  They told the army to cede power or else the US would pull humanitarian and military aid.   Obama's administration has in turn given money directly to the Muslim Brother.

The Muslim Brotherhood rising to power in Egypt isn't really good news for one of our country's strongest allies, Israel.

Let's talk about what a great christian Obama is!

Munson

Who cares if he's Christian? Or if Romney's a Mormon for that matter?

I'm pretty convinced Obama is more agnostic or atheist and just puts up the christian front because god forbid someone is in the White House and doesn't bow down to the Christian God.

It doesn't bother me that Romney is a Mormon either...The only part that does bother me is he might use his religious views on things like abortion as a reason to try to make that view the law.

Why are religious or non-religious views on social justice more acceptable than religious views on abortion?
