Why should donations to churches be taken out?  Depending on the religion, a good percentage of tithing goes right back to the community.  You are acting like all tithing money just goes to the church infrastructure. 

Regardless, I'm still shocked, given the liberal mantra about giving back to the community, shouldn't the blue stats be blowing out those red ones, regardless of how the study is done?

Church's run on donations and are tax exempt, it's really a scam which is why you see high profile preachers driving around in Mercedes. If the money is going back into the community why bother donating it to the church? People subconsciously think that donating to a church is going to appease 'God'. This generation needs a modern day version of Martin Luther, only problem is he'd be mocked and called a Socialist.

I saw a $100k Mercedes driving down the Boulevard the other day with a license plate that read F8FL2GOD. Yes, I'm sure God wants you driving around in a $100 Mercedes while there are starving children in the world, way to show your faith. Most Church folks are Conservative whackos who's bottom line is how much money they can make.

back in browntown i had a co-worker who gave HALF her paycheck to her church

shes liberal and doesnt hate queers and all but that shtein is like a farging drug. people do it out of fear and what they feel is respect for their parents or grandparents or whatever. its sick. catholicism is a total guilt trip that has a hold on people and bleeds them dry.

some are strong enough to at least think for themselves but then go right ahead and pork down their own money to the church so it can give it to an anti-gay group or mitt romenys election fund

And I know plenty of priests that drive around in clunkers?   There's separate donations almost every week at Mass.  The first collection for the Church, and the second collection usually for a specific charity or mission or soup kitchen.  So because people choose to give money to these type of charities, they should be discredited in the poll. 

Most church folk are religious whackos who care about the bottomline, so I guess non-church folk are just no religious folks who care even more about the bottomline.  At least according to charitable giving.

theres people who donate money to reserve a seat on the next hale bop comet....the church is nothing but a cult...like sd said why not just donate directly to a good cause and be sure where your money is going....

i honestly feel sorry for people who are so caught up in it. but then they turn around and feel sorry for us because we dont have faith or something and havent accepted jesus the jew as the lord and savior.

Normally I'd be singing kumbaya along with you two, but I just witnessed an incredible generosity bestowed upon a very needy and very worthy kid, a full scholarship including room and board to a good private Catholic school.  He is a church kid, and a good kid, and long story short...he's off to a great private school for free.  I don't know how many priests they let rape him before this charity was presented, that's between him and God.  But yeah, the Church has made a huge difference for this kid and his family, and all to the good as far as I can tell.

So anyway, there's nuance to this crap.  Stupid god worshipers.

True, but what else do we have that gets groups of people together in some kind of well defined community, like a church does?  Frisbee golf?  I mean, there are other social clubs and they do some good stuff like this too, but if God is an excuse people use to find fellowship with one another and do things to help other people, I'm not spitting on that.

Churches by far do more harm than good.  The frightened little rodents who scurry there would be better off simply donating their time and financial resources to existing charities that actually do provide help without the accompanying repression, division breeding and other assorted scare tactics.

In short, farg churches and all organized religion.

I have tried stomaching the church over the years.  I had my daughter enrolled in the catholic school here for three years mostly because I believed it was a better environment for learning.  A lot of shtein happened at the school and what that experience taught me was if you have a lot of money you're much more valuable to them and if you don't or you're unwilling to submit to their ridiculous authoritarian ways, you're not welcome.

It amazes me that people who don't go to church have such a big problem with people who do. Who cares? Why the farg does anyone care that a religious person wants to donate money every Sunday? And who is anyone to tell a religious person what charity they'd be better off donating their money too? Man, you can tell the people who are for big government Obamastyle. They want to tell everyone what they should be doing, including were to donate charitable contributions. If you don't agree with everything they say or think, then you're a stupid, ignorant bigot.  I could care less what people who go to church think or do. And no, just because a person goes to church doesn't mean that they automatically suck. People who think that are just as racist and bigoted (maybe more so), as the people they hate.
