I just got a mailer from Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty group pushing their Audit the Fed bill and asking for support. Auditing the Fed sounds like a good idea in theory so I did some research.

What a bunch of bullshtein.

Here's the gist:

1. The Fed is already audited every year by an independent auditor and all of the information is posted online. So, yeah.
2. The issue is that CONGRESS doesn't get to audit the Fed. Can you think of a worse idea than allowing a bunch of politicians who may or may not know the first thing about monetary policy (or economics in general) to get their hands on the nation's monetary decisions? Every time someone proposed an interest rate raise someone would object because it would impact their constiuency or donors in some way and there would be a perpetually low interest rate and inflation would be assured.

Anyway, if anyone gets into a conversation about this nonsense, consider yourselves a little bit more educated now.

its disgusting how much play the flight 253 incident got compared to us letting someone walk into a US military installation and blow 8 cia employees to smithereens

FYI  In war, troops, intelligence resources and government leaders are legitimate targets. Targeting innocent civilians on planes is not a legitatmate target.  Ya might wanna go down to the local gunstore and get an assault weapon..never can tell ;)

i was talking in terms of the national embarrassment of allowing each incident to happen and of course the end result

and FYI the cia people killed were civilians

I really wish that people would stop referring to terrorism (and the US attempt to quell terrorism) as 'war'. It's isn't war, by any traditional definition. It is a small group of extremists looking to cause fear and havoc. What's going on in Afghanistan should be relabeled as something else, and treated as something else, but because we aren't equipped or experienced in the ways of fighting terrorism we have committed ourselves to a 'war' against an enemy that doesn't have an army or a government or even popular support. One dude on a plane with a bomb isn't a soldier, he's an extremist whack job idealogue. 1500 dudes hiding out in the mountains isn't an army, it's a cult. I don't think you can fight a conventional war against that enemy and I think the first step towards correcting that is to stop using the term 'war'.[/rant]

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I figured someone posted it elsewhere.   I love the fact that Fox has balls big enough to hire that lunatic yet still masquerades as a legit news outlet.

They've had a good chunk of my road closed down and/or delayed for most of the day because Joe Biden's mothers funeral was at the church up the street from me. Apparently Obama was there too, I had no idea. Kinda weird/cool when the president and vice president are right down the road from you.

so it's been almost a year of obama's presidency.  those of us who voted for him said it was unfair to criticize him after 2 weeks in office and figured that a year would be a good point to start grading.  thoughts?

good
- economy and housing marking improving.  not sure how much can be credited to him and his policies, but he who is in office for these types of things usually gets the credit/blame.

- troops coming home from iraq.

- shut down gitmo.

- last time i checked, the 2nd amendment was still running strong.  you can stop panicing now.

- improved fuel standards for 2011 and allowed california to set tougher emission standards than the fed gov't.

- reduced the secrecy given to presidential records and changed procedures to promote disclosure under the freedom of information act

- repealed bush policy that prevented federal $ to fund stem cell research and also repealed bush policy that prevented fed $ from funding foreign establishments that allow abortions.  better to spend a few bucks on an abortion overseas today than spend thousands and thousands on that fully grown fetus 20 years from now when it comes here illegally and collects welfare.  plus, killing the foreigns is always fun.

bad
- not totally on board with everything in the universal health care plan.  it's a step in the right direction but at the same time, i kind of feel like he pushed it through simply for the sake of pushing it through rather than taking the time to get it right.

- troop surge in afghanistan.  it would make a little more sense to me to increase the numbers over there if the plan was to keep them there long enough to make some sort of impact.  but they're coming home next year so i'm not really sure what they are supposed to accomplish over the next year.

- has no real impact on the country but going to the ioc to try and get the olympics in chicago was just dumb.  same can be said about insulting the cops in boston.  dumb rookie mistake.

- unemployment got to a 20some year high, eclipsing 10%

- taxed middle class harder than any other economic class.

there's plenty more, but these are mostly issues important to me.  overall, i give him a B-.  he hasn't done anything as disturbing as bush did but he hasn't really done much to blow me away either.  but when it comes down to it, the country is in better shape today than it was 365 days ago, and there's something to be said for that.

i want to say i read that a few months ago so i'm not sure which site i saw it on.  i'll see if i can dig it up again....or better yet, if i can remember who forwarded me the link and search my email archive.  i def read it on the internet though, so it's totally legit and 100% troof.

Munson

Yeah there's not way that's accurate unless you're considering the 125000 for one or 250000 for a couple middle class. Upper middle class, sure, but it's not like their a single mother trying to raise a kid on a 60,000 a year salary.
