Absolute power is not something we're supposed to be in the business of here in the United States.

Agreed, however the two party system we now have is corrupt wouldn't you agree?  Regardless of which party is in power, the same things keep happening.  Sure, the general populous will disagree about some things (taxes, abortion, health care, etc.) but overall as a people we are far less "free" than just a couple generations ago.

I do agree.

It would be less so if we had greater transparency was my point.

Gregg just withdrew from nomination as Commerce Secretary, citing "irresolvable conflicts" with Obama and his administration.

Transparency is in the eye of the beholder, but I completely agree with you.

What, are they getting divorced?  Ghay.

According to Gibbs and Reid, he sought the nomination.  If true, wtf?

My guess is he bowed to political pressure from the party apparatus.

:-D are you out of your rabid ass mind? remember Obama was sent their for change. He has no desire to make it a bipartisan town. Remember the "i won" quote, scolding the repubs who are against the stimulus bill. What ever gave you the idea that he wanted a bipartisan town. The repubs had their time, now it's his time and he should run with it. I don't blame him or the other dems at all for going full throttle, go for it, if it works great I will give them their props, but please stop the BS  that any of the dems in charge, Harry, Pelosi or Obama want the repubs input at all.

phillymic2000

It was a punk move to back out now, even if Obama went after him. Did he think the stimulus bill wasn't going to pass? the only way he gets a pass on this is if Obama and his staff sprung some shtein on him after he accepted the nomination, other then that it is a complete punk move.

And once again with the Pizza Hut commercial, it is no where near real italian food  :boom

If the census issue really is behind this it's despicable. The last thing on earth that should be political is the census. Estimates are that the census has been off by 1-2% for decades and that those numbers are almost certainly minorities. Politicizing the census and the resulting gerrymandering are two of the most awful examples of politics on both sides of the aisle in this country.

I'm pissed because I think he would have been good.  I thought he had enough chops to argue his points with the President--and possibly win a few of them--thereby bringing better policy to bear.  I want Obama to have opposing views to consider and argue with, it makes for better decisions.  And this guy, though a partsian, is no dummy.  His lack of zeal for the Republican's racist fundie base and attention to actual matters of governance were encouraging.

I completely agree with every word of this. And I'm still disgusted with the thought that the census played a role in his decision.

We had a census worker calling us all day at the office.  Now, keep in mind they have the same public access to information as we do, but that's not good enough.  Nope - they'd rather us do their farging work for them.  I gave her information the first two times she called and then told her that if she needed any further information, she'd have to access the public records herself.

Lazy bitch.
