i refuse to bet basketball when the line is double digits...theres way to many cheesy back door covers....mavericks will be up by 30 going into the 4th tonight and the sixers starting lineup will out score the maverick scrubs 32-17 to cover

The Sixers have all the bargaining power

ha

Many playoff contending teams want Iverson, the Sixers have Iverson. The really isn't too big of a rush to trade Iverson, in that waiting another week or two will only proffer more lucrative deals. It's not like the trade deadline is coming up anytime soon to put pressure on making a deal either.

Bottom line: The Sixers have an asset that many teams want, and because of this many teams will compete against each other and bend further than what they might have originally been willing to go.

The Sixers want cap relief and a good young player/good draft picks. If they can't get what they want by dangling Iverson out there then the front office for the Sixers are just utterly incompetent.

ice grillin you

there are rumors that many teams want iverson...most of these rumors started by sixers so to drum up interest in him...in reality there are very few teams that want him and zero teams that are willing to give up anything for him....thats why its taking so long....best believe if there were numerous teams that wanted him with any enthusiasum at all hed have been gone already

You never throw out your best offer at the outset; at least a competent GM doesn't do that. It makes sense that talks are 'heating up' right now with actual talks of 3 team deals.

Sure, there have been a lot of rumors, but just because it is a rumor doesn't mean it doesn't have any truth behind it. When the media asks other front office executives around the league if they flat-out have interest in Iverson, and they say "we won't rule out the possibility" it means they have interest. It would serve no other purpose to make that comment. They want to try and get Iverson for the least cost. Stating that they are 'very interested' or sacrificing a lot of their players from the outset doesn't make sense.

There is definately legitimate interest in Iverson right now.  Probably more than there has been at any point over the last few years.  And while the Sixers may not be at the mercy of the rest of the league in terms of trading him, they definately do not have all the barganing power.  Any distinct advantage the Sixers may have had at the table was immediately thrown in the crapper the second Ed Snyder gave his interview during the Wizards game last week.

Eaglez

True. I should re-phrase a little. I think it is impossible for one person or team to have 'all' the bargaining power. I exaggerated a little. But, like you pointed out, they aren't at the mercy of any team. They can get some value for him, and 'value' for the Sixers is having flexibility and getting a good young player/draft picks. The Sixers haven't had cap space in years, and it would be nice to actually go into a season with the Sixers having some wiggle room and some options.

A lot of people will look at whatever manifests and say that 'well, they didn't get any big name person in return'. Who cares. The Sixers need to start from ground one. The AI era had its ups and downs, but now it's over and it's better for both parties to move on. The Sixers will get flexibility for the future, and AI can try to win a title in a different environment. As long as the Sixers get cap space and a draft pick/young player/couple of picks combination I think it will be as close of a win/win as you can get.

if the sixers got all that for iverson it would be more than a win...it would be robbery...the thing is they arent getting multiple picks and a good young player and salary cap space...its just not gonna happen....

i think right now best case would be a #1 and some expiring contracts...most likely case would be just some expiring contracts

I think he means any combination of 2 outta 3, not all 3 combined.  If Billy King were able to pull of a deal that got them all of that stuff I would nominate him for GM of the century.

ice grillin you

oh ok in that case i agree its possible...but my point is if thats all they can get then iverson doesnt have the value that you guys think he does

i just think if there were a lot of teams out there right now who really wanted him then the sixers could/would get a combo of all three and it would have already happened...inother words i dont think billy king is getting bowled over with great offers by mutliple teams and is trying to squeeze out more...i think hes getting garbage offers and doesnt wanna get ripped off...problem is as you mentioned once they sent him him it killed their bargining position...why woudlnt you want him in the lineup right now throwin up 35 a game while you tried to trade him

perhaps a miracle deal still will happen..the advantage the sixers do have is that its not like iverson has six years left on his deal at mega cake...he only has two its not that huge of an investment...so teams that think he could put them over the hump should make a run at him...on the flip side the teams that want him to just sell tickets dont want to give anything of substance for someone they will only have for two seasons

The longer it takes the better I feel about it.  The Sixers are taking a PR beating for leaving Iverson in cold storage (Pat Croce anyone? Screamin' A also) yet they seem to be taking their time and either sorting out or waiting for the best possible deal for him.

You gotta like that.

Still, knowing what a fargtard Billy King is, you know they're gonna get screwed over.  It's fate, lads.   :-\

Sgt PSN

I wouldn't put him on the floor for 2 reasons.

1.  His absense does = more shot attempts for everyone else.  At least we can get a good look at some of the players on the team who might not otherwise get many opportunities to contribute.

2.  Injury.  Iverson has only played 1 season I think without getting hurt.  It's because he plays at full speed all the time.  The last thing that the Sixers need right now is to try and peddle damaged goods on someone else.  You think AI's got low trade value now?  Imagine if he were broke.

ice grillin you

the shot attempts thing is irrelevant now and for the next however many days he would be playing on the sixers...the shots will be there for the next five years once he leaves

as for the injury thing  if hes so injury prone that the sixers cant even play him a few games while they try to deal him then why would any team trade for a guy thats gonna get hurt right after hes aquired

I agree.  It's not like anyone they do bring in this year is going to spark some dramatic turn around on this team and make it a legitmate playoff team.  Billy King needs to be patient with this for as long as possible and here's why:

1.  The more games this team plays without AI or compensation for AI = the more games this team loses = the higher the draft pick.

2.  The longer this drags out, the deeper in the season we get.  That means that teams will have a better idea of where they truly stand among their division and conference and what they need to make themselves legitimate championship contenders.  Thus, they will be a little more desperate, imo, and willing to give up a little more......potentially in the form of draft picks and young talent that has yet to sign super high dollar contracts.  That puts the Sixers in better position to start rebuilding that aquiring expiring contracts.

3.  I had another good point in my head when I started typing but I forget what it is now.  So the first 2 will have to do.

PoopyfaceMcGee

They haven't traded him yet?  Christ.

I'll concede the shots to you but the injury thing is a huge issue.  Everyone around the league knows that he's going to miss a few games each year due to injury and I think most GM's would be willing to accept that based on the fact that his injuries tend to come from playing hard.  At the same time though, all it takes is that one freak accident for him to blow out a knee or something a little more long term than his typical injuries which sideline him for a few games.  He's 31.  Not old but not exactly a pup either.

He's healthy and was leading the league in scoring after his last game.  Keep him that way.
