Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers have put up with each other, through good times and bad, for the last decade.

But that could be coming to an end very soon. According to a report on the New York Post's website, Iverson has demanded a trade.
Citing two agents whose clients play for the 76ers, the Post report said Iverson went to team president Billy King last Tuesday and made the demand, even though he'd said throughout his career that he'd never do such a thing.

The Post also cites two general managers that King contacted on Thursday, who claim the 76ers are aggressively trying to accommodate Iverson's request.

The 76ers have lost five straight to fall to 5-12 on the season. And even though that mark leaves them just a game-and-a-half out of first place in the woeful Atlantic Division, Iverson has grown increasingly frustrated with the team's situation.

Particularly its head coach.

The Post report quotes an unnamed agent who said Iverson told King he likes Maurice Cheeks as a person, "but not as a coach."

Iverson's stretch in Philly has seen highs — most notably an appearance in the 2001 NBA Finals and an MVP season in 2000-01.

But it has also been characterized by clashes with 76ers management. Iverson was suspended during the 2003-04 season for missing practice, leading to the infamous "We're talking about practice" press conference. Iverson also was benched for last year's season finale after showing up late for fan appreciation night.

"For all the civic slurs, for all the unsavory things said of the Philadelphia fans, also say this: They could teach loyalty to a dog. Their capacity for pain is without limit." -Bill Lyons

I'd probably feel better if it weren't King making the deal.

At least we only really have to worry about Iverson's and Webber's contracts (but one could make an argument that Dalembert's contract is ridiculous and so is Willie Green's), the Knicks are still paying the contracts of Allen Houston and Jalen Rose.   :-D

No AI tonight and he won't make the trip to Orlando

Just like during the summer I said the two best teams to trade him to are Atlanta and Boston and it is no different now. Both have young talent and both suck so can give up nice picks.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

ice grillin you

hes gonna end up in denver
sometime in the next 48 hrs
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

The BIGSTUD

Denver is the worst possible spot. They have no young talent and they are a solid team so we'd end up with something like the 18ish pick.

It wouldn't surprise me knowing Billy though. Worst GM ever.

Billy King was just interviewed, he gave the typical "we don't talk about that stuff" and "we don't speculate" responses. Dei Lynam asked him if AI came to him and demanded a trade and he said it doesn't matter what players come to him he's going to do what's best for the team. It was pretty obvious watching it that AI's a goner and that the back spasms are just an excuse to keep him out until he's traded.

Ed Snider spoke to the ESPN reporters (I"m watching the ESPN feed);

* Iverson has asked to be traded

* It's time to move on

* Iverson has likely played his last game as a 76er

Jim Gray just said he spoke to Allen and he said that AI said he hopes a trade is in the works to Minnesota. He said he loves Philly but it is time to move on. When asked if the situation is repairable he said he didn't think so.

Well, the AI haters get their wish. Let's just hope that Billy makes a good deal. I hope he does go to Minnesota and they give up Foye.

I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

I don't want to trade with Minnesota. Their pick won't be that good because AI + KG = title contender and Foye alone isn't enough. We need a very good young player and a pick or 2 good players and a pick.

you're over valuing him.  they should be happy to get one high pick OR a good young player along with the obligatory garbage salaries they have to take.

He's one of the best players in the history of the game. I'm absolutely not overvaluing him. If we don't get a good deal it is because BK sucks as a GM not because of AI's value. If we had a good GM in here I think we could work out a deal with Atlanta for Marvin Williams, Childress and maybe a pick. That would be a much better deal than anything we'd get from Minny.

lol @ u

True. Maybe Billy will accidentally make a good deal.

I want Foye. Get a good young player. You're not going to get dollar for dollar in this deal. You gotta take what you can get. So long as it doesn't rival Perry, Lang & Hornacek.

Apparently the Minny deal is actually in works.
