Or they could be bringing in Will Peterson to destroy Hood's market value and possibly try and retain him for a lower price. Stating that, "well, you only played in X amount of games, you had a nagging injury all year, and you split time with Will Peterson, do you really think you can command that much dough?"

yeah that will trick all those nfl gm's

stop it

gm's are gonna watch film of him play and make a determination as to whether he can play in the league or not...and if they believe he is starter material they will sign in and give him proper money

also do you really believe andy/banner would make the team worse just to try to get hood at a cheaper price in the offseason....as much as i dislike him that it the most ridiculous thing anyone has ever said

I didn't say 'make the team' worse, just that it is a possibility.

Don't be surprised if it is pulled out in contract negotiations though, it's all about bargaining power.

Did I say that it would happen? No, but to completely dismiss that they will weigh playing time, statistical outcomes, and others tangibles against one another is short-sighted.

Do you honestly think a GM in the NFL is going to offer starter money to Rod Hood if he plays sparsely between now and the end of the year? Or if he splits time with Will Peterson? I would hope you would conclude no. If a GM offers starter money to Rod Hood based off limited performance and appearances then that GM probably won't be in the league very long.

You don't throw money at someone who barely plays and give them a boatload in guarantees. The only franchise that makes a concerted effort to do that is the taterskins, and we've all seen how well that's worked out for them.

Now, that all being said, Rod Hood probably won't split time with Will Peterson, he'll probably outright win his job back at the 3rd CB position and hence his market value will increase when he starts to make big plays. However, be a little business savvy, IGY. After all, that is what the NFL is (it's actually a cartel but that's another story for another day).

With all due respect, you're out to lunch.  Good CBs are hard to come by, and Hood has already proven he's good.  He's about to get PAID, whether or not he sees much game time over the next 8 games.
And the Eagles sure as hell aren't gonna be the team paying.

Hood could miss the rest of the season and he'd still be in demand when FA starts. There is tape on him out there and some GM is going to make him a rich man.

Doubtful the $ for him will get too outta control...so the Eagles will attempt to keep him.   Unless the market for Corners is hot, and the Birds go on the cheap.

I think the team will want Hood to come back and look good this season. That way they can let him walk and hopefully sign a good contract elsewhere so they can get a comp pick. These days  $4-5 million per year with 30% signing bonus should get a 4th rounder (Dan Snyder would do it).

BTW, long time lurker, first time poster (so be gentle). You all have a great board going here.

Welcome aboard.  You picked a helluva time to engage.  As you can sense we are all very pissed off so don't take anything personally, except from rjs.  He means what he says.

You're comparing old disgruntled players with injury histories and outrageous contract demands to Rod Hood? Come on, Ed.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?
