A little defensive help appears to be on the way for the recently struggling Philadelphia Eagles.

FOXSports.com has learned that Philly has agreed in principle to a contract with former Giants starting cornerback Will Peterson.

Peterson is scheduled to fly to Philadelphia Monday to take a physical in order to finalize the deal, which is contingent on Peterson's passing the physical.

Injuries and a sour relationship with Giants head coach Tom Coughlin ended Peterson's tenure in New York in the middle of what was supposed to be the third-round draft pick's prime. Peterson played five seasons for the Giants, but two of the final three were hampered by injury. He was finally cut in May of 2006 after injuring his back in Week 3 and missing the remainder of the 2005 season.

During his five seasons in New York, Peterson started 39 games and had five interceptions and 199 tackles.

Interesting move.

Giants fans hated him.

Dexter Wynn will get cut.

No and no.

Jints fans used to bitch about him and Will Allen dropping INTs all the time. Mostly Allen, but Will Pete was not known for his hands either.

And he's had back injuries.

Ah. Injuries. That's all you had to say.

However, if he is healthy, this could be a very good pickup. He was a starter and that alone makes him better than Dexter Wynn.

It'll be nice to have Peterson on the team as they turn in a stellar 7-9 campaign.

General_Failure

He's next year's nickel. So much for drafting a DB early next year.

That must have been a typo. Surely you mean 4-12

Yes but Wynn has done a fine job on kickoff returns this year, and at least with him in there was was a sliver of hope that he'd break one. We'll now have to deal with Reno Mahe returning both punts and kicks for the rest of the year, and know that we have a .0001% chance of having a big special teams play for a TD.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

General_Failure

With the blocking out there, you were expecting any kind of TD from them?

The chance of muffing a kick is way higher than returning one for a TD, especially with Wynn.
