No cheese or seasoning. Mexicans everywhere will renounce you.

I watched a show on PBS last night called "Eat, Fast, and Live Longer". It discussed calorie restricted diets which would be a nightmare to maintain, but after that it was about a couple of different fasting options. Option 1 would have you fast for 4 nights and 3 days every month while Option 2 you eat normally 5 days a week and consume no more than 600 calories (400 for females) on the other 2 random days. Both options apparently reduce IGF-1 levels. Since IGF-1 encourages new cell development, reducing the levels forces the body to repair cells instead.

Seems like it's more anecdotal evidence as very little empirical research has been done, but I think I'm going to give the 5/2 option a go.

since most people eat like slobs what's considered eating "normal" the 5 days?

Tomahawk

They didn't specify, but I'm assuming it's no more than the recommended daily caloric intake for a sedentary lifestyle.

Anyone ever deal with Plantar Fasciitis? My right foot has hurt like hell in the morning for the past few months. Left one started hurting this week. I started a regular workout routine in January. I get through my workouts fine but mornings aren't fun.

Were mornings fun before?

I'm working out again. It sucks but is also awesome. I wish I had had access to real coaches and information about training when I was young because the older I get the more I realize that my body takes to every variety of workout I try, and actually excels, pretty quickly. Everyone cares.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

I care. I've met you and I know that an ass like yours wasn't built in one day.

I've been dealing with it for over a year...but it is much, much better now.

I went to Target and bought a night splint specifically for plantar fasciitis. It was about $30 for one foot but it helps keep tension on your tendon (which probably goes against conventional thinking) but it doesn't help when it is relaxed. The dorsal splint helps keep the toes pointed while you sleep, stretching the tendon and reducing pain in the morning.

Also, I have arch support in all of my shoes...or I use arch support. If I don't, I'm farged. This has also reduced the pain.

They have exercises that can help with stretching...but they recommend you do that before you get out of bed each day.

It's a pain in the farging ass...but you will get to a point where you feel relief. I don't know if we can completely get rid of it unless we check into physical rehabilitation and become committed to these execises, but at least for half-asses like me, you can get away with arch support, the splint, and stretches.

Anyone interested in doing some kind of  :CF fitness challenge? Seems like there's enough of us to do a 3 or 6 month challenge...post results, etc.

Anyone interested?

you just want to see pics of my chest right?

I'm happy to see that the first thought that came to you with a group fitness challenge was sharing your shirtless pics with random strangers. farg it, I'll take a look.

If this 'fitness challenge' thing is decent enough and includes a lot of lifting I'd probably be in.

I'm planning on doing the Tour de Cure in Saratoga over the summer, 25 mile bike race... I don't think I've rode a bike since I was maybe 15.

I figure we'd all shoot for personal goal, maybe throw in some athletic goals as well as maybe like a group goal.

For example-

Personal:

Lose weight, bulk up, tone down, whatever you want for yourself.

Athletic:

Vertical leap, 2-mile run, swimming or something

Group goal:

Monthly progress check ins or limits...if you don't make it within a certain time frame or weight or percentage of your overall goal or group time or level...you're done.

It's up for discussion. There seem to be enough of us that care as much about ourselves as we do ridiculing each other. Two birds with one stone. There's even a slim chance we'd motivate each other.
