If you're eating fun stuff like pretzels, pizza, wings, beer even once a week...you'll keep the gut, or at least a version of it. It's the simple carbs that keep that thing going.

Zanshin

Well, simple carbs and a genetic proclivity.

In an effort to continue drinking beer every single goddamned day without getting a gut I've basically stopped eating pasta and have pizza once a month or so. There are times now when the smell of a carb heavy meal actually makes my mouth water.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

i know your not technically doing a low carb diet, you're just cutting them down but i did a low carb thing last summer and it worked great, i lost like 25 lbs and then i couldn't take it anymore and went back albeit cautiously (i thought) and it had such a rubber band effect on my weight.  i gained everything back i lost and more.  i read that is the problem with those diets, that there is something that happens to your body that once you reintroduce carbs back to your body they stick to you like glue.

that's why i figured it's better to still eat the things i want, but not as much.  it's worked so much better for me.

Yeah those low carb/no carb deals are tough. I tried it way back when I first started losing and i lasted about two days. I need carbs. When I do eat bread or pasta I only use the whole wheat or whole grain stuff.

Its funny because now I cannot even stand the taste or regular white bread.

I am on my 1600cal or less diet now to drop some pounds that I picked up from my ankle being farged up and not being able to run

This.

All the carbs I eat are wheat or grain (aside from fruits obviously). I go through 2 or 3 lbs of pasta each week, and then a lot of brown rice too. I can keep that up because I'm working out ~5x a week. Obviously if you're not working out as much I wouldn't suggest eating as much. The point is, when your level of activity high, it's not the amount you eat, it's what you eat.

Sunny if you're really serious about cutting bad foods, an easy way is just sack up and eat healthy as shtein for like a month. You'll crave them, but once you introduce them back, your body will hate you and have the most disgusting vile shteins ever for like 2 straight days. It'll be torture. Opposed to the soft-ass easy shteinting you'll experience from eating grains and vegetables.

And yeah, I can't eat regular white pasta anymore. Tastes like rubber flour. farging gross.

I don't do no carb but I definitely do low carb. Best thing to do is to have a cheat day once a week or at least a cheat meal, that way your body doesn't get used to the calorie and carb restriction and once you cheat you give your metabolism a boost. In other words you're keeping your body guessing.

I'd much rather be thin drunk and happy.

Good point, Dillen, about how junk food makes ya feel after going off that shtein. I'd eat pizza or nachos or something and my stomach would kill me.

You'd be happier with carbs.

so who knew that a 10-day bender of booze and drugs would interrupt one's workout habits? actually i lost almost 5 pounds in that span which included new orleans but i just tried to run and it's like i stopped for months.

rjs246

I haven't done one thing that could reasonably be called a workout in 6 or 7 weeks. Nothing. The idea of starting up again makes me sleepy.

i've hit a plateau for sure.  i'm still working out 6 days a week but i've only lost 3 pounds in the past month.  my eating has gotten worse from where it was at the beginning of this.  cheat more here, go over my goal there, and a lot more beer lately.  so, i'm sure if i stop that it will help, but i don't wanna, so there's that.
