Sounds like you're cursed. Since that's the case, there's no hope.

Core workouts. Probably will be of come help to have one or two personal training sessions to get an idea of what to do.

Abs, lower back, obliques, etc. Have to tighten them up to help get rid of the belly fat.

You can target that area all you want and do 7000 crunches to boot...you will have one hell of a tight core but still have a gut if you already have one

Abs are all in the diet and burning the fat. Increase the blow Mo.

For men ab fat is usually the last fat to go and hardest to get rid of (women it is hips and butt). It's a common frustration but having lost all that other fat means you're doing the right things. I'd think just keep at it, be patient and plenty of cardio is the best thing, at least exercise wise.

It is true that you can't target fat in specific areas like you can do with muscle. All those infomercials with the latest gut buster is a load of crap. Most of your body fat distribution pattern is genetic/hormonal though diet can effect it. Best thing with cardio is to make sure you don't push to the point of getting out of breath, which is an indicator of shifting from aerobic to anaerobic metabolism, which is actually less helpful and can sometimes be counterproductive.

Pretty much. Genetics suck. I've been down as low as 170 and still had a gut. Keep on keeping on and don't worry about it.

I think the most effective way to get rid of fat is interval training. Instead of a running for however long at an even pace, do a full sprint for a couple minutes, into a jog, back into a sprint, jog, walk, sprint, etc. Running 2 miles on intervals like that, over a 15 minute period, is way harder than running 2 miles at an even pace over 15 minutes. It's basically the only cardio I do and my bodyfat% is probably under 10%.

Also, stop eating crap. Eat vegetables and chicken and shtein.

i'm getting frustrated that while i'm close to my goal weight, and i've dropped a few pant/shirt sizes, i cannot lose my farging gut.  is there anything specifically i can do exercise wise to target that area?

12 oz curls have transformed my abs tremendously.

Explains the six pack.

You know, there's some middle ground there where you do upper and lower body along with some cardio in the same week.

Time's been the biggest factor in my workouts...the workout I do does call for a total body workout 3 days a week (the main parts being bench and squats on mon/fri, and front squats/incline bench on wednesdays) but my school gym closes at 5:30 on Mon/Weds and 4:30 on Fri, so I often only get there with enough time for a warm up jog and then my bench and other upper body workouts (rows, lat pulldowns, etc)

I figured if i was only gonna get part of the workout in, I'd get the part in that makes me look better/more muscular. After a month, i'm supposed to move onto Step 2 of the workout but I can't find my sheet so I'm gonna go back to my football coach who put it together and get that. In the mean time I'm gonna try and get my ass in shape cardio-wise and strengthen my legs a bit, then start over on step 1 next month and do it the right way.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Deadlift. And straight legged deadlift. Deadlifts are a much better 'full body workout', especially if you're pressed for time. They're gonna do a hell lot more for your back than those iso exercises, assuming you're just starting to work out.

Also, they make your legs balloon up. Obviously.

Yeah deadlifts actually take the place of the squats in the Step 2 of my workout on Monday/Fridays. Problem is, that's the only part of Step 2 I remember haha. Can't remember any of the upper body exercises from Step 2.

i've gotten better at this but i can never give it up.  food is my drug.  the fact that i've been able to reduce myself to around 1600 net calories per day is a minor farging miracle in itself.

i pretty much knew the answer when i asked the question but i appreciate the responses.  the part that sucks is i've done a shtein load of core work and my core is as solid and strong as it's ever been, it's just hidden behind a layer (albeit slowly shrinking) of awfulness.

Limiting calories is an important step, but you can increase that caloric intake if you're staying active. It's more about what you eat as opposed to how much. If you're eating lots of lean protein and vegetables and really restricting bad carbs and other crap you will continue to shed fat. Obviously you're doing the exercise part of the equation and you've already made drastic dietary changes so you know you can do it. Weight loss and fitness are more than just a calories in / calories out equation.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

yeah, i know.  i don't do fast food anymore as far as the chains.  i still do pizza and wings probably once a week but i don't eat as much as i used to.  i eat pretty square meals, always having a green veggie or salad but i still eat stuff like pasta and some beef.  mostly though it's chicken and pork.

and 1600 is just my base intake for non workout days.  workout days i usually get up to 2200 - 2400
