Best is fat free dressings. Fat Free Italian isn't bad. Balsamic Vinaigrette is good if you can't do the fat free.

Dry or oil and vinegar is probably 'the best' but again, just working some roughage into your diet will have a positive effect over the long run. Diets make people miserable. Exercise makes people feel better. Focus on the exercise and make small obvious changes to your diet that won't make you want to kill yourself and you'll be fine.

SD, if you are farged, I'm dead in a week.

Ok, so here it is, i'm a fat muthafarger.  I'm 221lbs on a good day after a large bout of muddbutt, and i'm 5'11.  I'm tired of being a fatass, and dont want to be embarrased with my man boobs.  Whats the best bet for a lazy person like myself to shed some weight in a healthy manner.  I generally avoid Sodas, i can cut out chips and snacks.  I've reduced my sugar intake on coffee to under a teaspoon for a 32oz cup.

Is cardio the best bet to try and burn the fat?  Pushups to get rid of manboobage?  Situps?

How quickly do you want to drop the weight? Do you have access to a gym? If you do, you really need to get on a weight routine. I've got a great one that focuses on higher reps and muscle conditioning that would really help; if you want it, let me know. Keep in mind that lifting weights burns calories all day and night, and that cardio only burns while you're doing it and a little after. And if you don't do any strength training, the cardio alone might eat into some muscle for weight loss, making you skinny fat. All of that said, you still need to do cardio. I've been on a routine where I lift during the day, four days a week and run at night six days a week. Breaking up the lifting and cardio can help for a variety of reasons-- but if you can't do it, then lift first, then run.

More importantly, if you want to drop the weight, you need to change the way you eat. You need to eat less overall, and spread your calories over the course of the day. I get results not eating after 8 pm, but I think that depends on your body. You need to stick to lean meats, fresh vegetables and whole grains. More than anything, steer clear of sugar and refined grains. You'll probably want to go higher on the proteins, particularly if you lift. As far as the overall calories go, there are calculators on the web that could help you.

Actually, there's a lot of good information on the forums at www.johnstonefitness.com.

Quotereese: Walking at 4.5 mph on the treadmill is what I do for a cool-down. I don't think there's any way that I could qualify that as a workout no matter how bad my knees feel.

what? dude..unless your 6'3 and have a stride like a gazelle 4.5 is not your cool down. stop it

I'm definitely not kidding. My cool down goes 4.6 (1 minute), 4.5 (2 minutes), 4.4 (2 minutes), 4.3 (1 minute).

Hahaha, this is basically the opposite of everything I did to lose weight. Awesome.

(Well, not quite the opposite. I have always spread out my eating and done low-weight lifting along with my cardio shtein. But I definitely focused on the cardio and much less on lifting/diet. farg dieting. Women diet.)

I don't see why 4.5 and a gradually decrease is surprising to reese. 4.5 is about the point where walking is fast paced and bumping it up .5 turns it into a run. When I ran on the treadmill on the ship that's exactly what I would do, ony I'd decrease at a 1 minute interval from 4.5, to 4.0, to 3.5 etc.

But you never REALLY had a weight problem, right? I mean dropping a couple of pounds and needing to drop 50 are different things. If you take a look at how much the average cardio workout burns in a session, it's not enough to cover someone who needs to lose serious weight and isn't changing their eating habits. If a fatass needs to drop weight, he or she needs to start in the kitchen and re-evaluate what got them there. Exercise is important, whether it's weights or cardio or both-- but fat people tend to have slower metabolisms, and lifting is something that can positively affect that over the entire day, as opposed to just cardio. It burns calories to repair the muscle you've damaged while lifting, and it takes more calories to maintain the muscle you've built. But, hey, my short diet pamphlet is to eat less and move more-- anything after that is just customization.

Very valid point. I was dropping weight to look better, not because I was even close to any sort of health risk.

My work has a gym, and its like 10bucks a month.  I'm in the office roughly 2 days a week, but that might work if i do some walking/running outside of work.  I'd like to lose weight asap, in the past when i've stopped drinking for a week i can generally lose about 10lbs of weight, carbs and water weight i guess.  Im not sure how much i'm going to be able to lift, i did some lifting for about a year and a half a couple years ago, and it was a bitch on my shoulder then.  The rainy weather makes my shoulder feel like its gonna fall out again now.  My main focus is to lose as much fatty weight as i can, i just turned 28 Sunday, and i want to make sure i'm not a complete fatass as i get older.

I need to also stop snacking as SD said, i'm a nighthawk, and if we eat around 7pm i'm starving by 12am and will usually eat some Craisins or trailmix.
