According to Hockey's Future, he's the 33rd rated prospect in hockey right now (dated 9/26/06).

I'd say he has almost nothing but upside in his career.

Quote
After four seasons playing junior hockey with the WHL's Portland Winter Hawks, Coburn signed a professional contract to play for the AHL Chicago Wolves at the end of the 2004-05 season. Last season, Coburn played almost the entire year as a member of the Wolves AHL team. In 73 games with Chicago, Coburn tallied 26 points and accumulated 134 PIM, while maintaining a plus/minus of +12. In the nine games Coburn played as a member of the NHL Thrashers last season, he registered only 1 assist and 4 PIM, while maintaining a –2 plus/minus. A big physical defenseman with a nasty streak, Coburn can be very intimidating on the ice, but struggles with awareness. As the Thrashers will have some hotly-contested battles to make the roster, Coburn will have to step up his game to start the season with the NHL team.

People are worried he isn't using his frame enough, despite being 6'5.  Regardless, TSN and other profile breakdowns of Coburn say he should still end up being a "Top 4" defenseman.  A lot of Thrashers fans said he was their 2nd best DMan when he was with the team after DeVries and for some reason fell out of favor with the coaching staff.

same problem we've had with other D-man in the past.  Hopefully he just needs to be "motivated".
Don't let this turn into Bundy the 2nd.

From everything ive heard about the guy he's a faster Rathje.  Rathje was damn good for his first 8 years.  I love me some homer.

Holmgren took a break from trades to go sit in the dunk tank at the Flyers carnival

holmgren doing a pretty solid job so far in picking up some good young talent and freeing up a TON of cap space for the offseason.

I likey.

I still think Clarky is pulling the strings on Homer but either way, they seem to understand how the new NHL works now.  I still am drooling over our future Blueline...Pitkanen/Parent/Coburn/Picard/Jones/Oskars Bartulis

Love what Holmgren is doing, getting Coburn was a steal.

Another Flyers trade:

Kyle Calder back to Chicago for Finnish defenseman Lasse Kukkonen and a 3rd-rd pick.

Chicago traded Calder to Detroit for Jason Williams.

TSN is also reporting that Michael Leighton was put on waivers...

Seabiscuit36

Great trade.  Kukkonen played and grew up with Joni, he might be the guy to get Joni back into the player that he really is.

Love it, they got a good young prospect and pick for a guy who wasn't going to be around next season, also cleared up some cap space. With Leighton going on waivers I take it Esche is staying put.

It's fairly remarkable that they have been able to load up on young defensive talent for such a low cost. Hope springs eternal.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

ice grillin you

i like all the trades but you guys are getting a little out of control saying every trade is GREAT

most of these guys wont pan out...the hope is that one of them becomes a player and if that happens then fantastic

the flyers didnt all of a sudden becomes genious and all the other teams in the league idiots

the best part of all this is the cap room they are gonna have to sign established nhl players...also its gonna be real fun to track the development of the young players over the next few years

until they get a nhl goalie tho nothing really matters...next year is going to be ugly with the defense they are gonna have if they dont get someone very good behind it
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous
