Hitch is the best coach in hockey. He's been at the top, he's won big games. Don't blame him for Clarke's poor job at putting together a complete team.

Hitchcock's defense-at-all-costs style of hockey is not compatable with the post-lockout NHL.  He has not shown an ability to adjust to the modern game- in the least.

He's also horrendous at utilizing younger players (Carter, Richards, etc.).

When Forsberg goes down with the inevitable injury, the Flyers are one of the worst teams in hockey.

CLEAN HOUSE.

The "modern game" is hardly any different to the pre lockout NHL. You may think the changes have made a huge difference, but they really haven't. Last time I checked, the Flyers have had the same problems for the last 6 or so years. Hitch wasn't the only coach in that time period either. It is the personnel, not the coaching.

8-1.

Oh, the cleaning house will include a number of the players.

Of the team right now, I defnintely keep Pitkanen, Carter, Gagne... maybe I'm missing one, but I don't think so.

Clarke?  DEAD
Hitchcock?  DEAD
Niedermayer?

It should be noted that Esche is still in there to get embarassed by Hitchcock.  I could see a trade happening...

I'm not saying Carter doesn't have potential, because he does, but what exactly has he done? Same with Richards. I know everyone was high on them coming off the Champion Phantoms, but they haven't exactly been lights out as Flyers. They haven't been bad, but I'd say they were solid and that is about it.

Things shouldn't have to go to shtein for the GM to make a trade. He should know what his team is made of before the season starts. Bad GMing by Clarke.

Also, while I think Hitch is a great coach, maybe firing him is the right idea. Not because he can't coach, but I think he has completely lost control of the team.

How to not succeed in the modern NHL - By SD_Eagle
- Slow defense
- Bad Goaltending
- Slow forwards
- Old School GM who has no idea how to build a team to compete in todays NHL
- Defense oriented coach who refuses to change his system despite extraordinary rule changes

Bunkley, no bet? What's the deal?
