This can't be said enough: Pre-season is meaningless.

Not a single kick he made in pre-season came against a defense that was playing for real. Not a single kick he made in pre-season meant anything important.

Those pre-season kicks mean about as much as the 85 yarders he routinely nails in warm ups.

Thats exactly right, and if anyone doesn't think theres any difference in kicking during the pre-season vs the reg. season, then I'd have to say they were wrong and  might never have played football before. Kicking in pre season is like batting practice to Akers. He just signed a new contract and the job was his to lose. There was absolutly no pressure on Akers in the pre-season. There is now.

But still, I think/hope he can bounce back. With a new contract and everything, I think the pressure is really on his ass now after missing. I know he has to be thinking that if he'd have made that one against the Giants, we would have won that game. He's been one of the most consistant kickers in the league for years, he'll get his chance to come back.

A little off topic, but I refuse to pin that loss on Akers.  Yeah, the 3 points obviously would have made the difference at the end of the game but Akers wasn't the one allowing the Giants to move the ball down field, he wasn't the one unable to move the ball against the Giants in the 4th qtr and he wasn't calling the plays.

Not saying you're blaming him Shorebird, but I just wanted to throw that out there.

Geowhizzer

The one he missed against the Giants was also 49 yards.

Does he usually make those?  Yes, but it's hardly a gimme.

Sgt PSN

Oh, is that all it was?  I thought it was like 80 yds or something.  In that case, cut him!   Farging hack.

I know your not saying I'm blaming the loss on Akers, and I'm not by any means. Way too many missed opourtunities in that game, only one of them being Akers missed field goal. I just think that while none of us would blame the loss on him, he might feel differently himself. He knows that if he'd have made it, we'd have won. Simple as that. That has to be eating at him.

And really, what was up with that crap on the sidelines?? He should know that no smart player, much less a friggen' kicker starts fights on the other side of the field.

Diomedes

I hope he's made an apology for that crap.  It was atrocious.

Also, I'd pay a thousand dollars to see what Mr. Black belt would do to either of those Giant Romes in a fair fight.

If they can put Tonya Harding on pay per view for $50, then we should be able to get Akers and a few Giants players for $100!! :-D

Akers vs. Jacobs in a ring.  Ish would be over in less than a minute.

That's because Sean Taylor would come in and kill both of them.

Then spit on the corner man.

Seriously. He's a kicker and not doing well. Cut him.

The man. The myth. The legend.

QuoteGoing into tonight's game against the Packers, kicker David Akers is off to a bit of a slow start, having missed two of his five field goal attempts, including two of the last four.

Well, it's even worse than that, because one of the two he made clanged off an upright.

But at least he's acknowledging his issues and not brushing them under a rug like some people on :CF.

Dangest?  Someone's been hanging around Reid too much.
