I'm not sure Davis could fill the 4th spot, Phreak.

Unless I'm missing something, this entire premise is faulty.  Davis is washed up, right?

Or is this another Dorsey Levensesque move made by the geniuses in the front office who refused to address this situation when they could and should have?

PhillyPhreak54

I was telling reese's pieces that his call that the Chargers need a RB is crazy. I guess my sarcasm didn't make it. They don't because Turner and Sproles are fine behind LT.

And yes, I think Davis is done.

Rome

I wasn't referring to reese there.  Just a passing thought about Davis in general.

I hope to God they don't pick his geriatric ass up.  I further hope they stop farging around and get a durable running back in there, and soon.

PhillyPhreak54

Don't really see that happening, Rome. Not a whole lot that will be out there other than what we pretty much see on the scrap heap each year. Unless there is some truth to what Gargano is saying about them trying to get Tatum Bell and Ashley Lelie in a package deal.

Rome

Yeah, neither do I.

At least they didn't draft Spitty Spitterson, LenDale White, though.

:-D

PhillyPhreak54

I know. I'm glad they passed on him too.

Although several of the guys I wanted them to draft or sign as UDFA's never happened.

Coincidentally the now #1 RB in DEN was one of the guys who I really wanted. :-\

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

The only thing Davis may be good for would be a short yardage back in a similar situation Pittsburgh used Bettis the last two years.  But that is the absolute best case scenario, so considering the Eagles don't run the ball nearly as much as the Steelers it really would be a pointless move.

The Chargers do not need a backup RB. Turner is a good young backup. And Sproles is 3rd on the depth chart and can fill in if needed. So if anything they would need a 4th string RB. Good call.

Chargers RB/PR Darren Sproles underwent surgery for a broken leg Monday.

Head coach Marty Schottenheimer said Sproles would be out "multiple weeks," which isn't a lie; he's likely done for the year. San Diego is expected to turn to starting WR Eric Parker in the punt return game, which could give Vincent Jackson an opportunity to start opposite Keenan McCardell.

There u go Phreak, I owed you one   ;)

PhillyPhreak54

Huh, no shtein. I saw him go down when watching the game on NFLN but I thought it was just a sprain. Got me on that one.

There is no truth to this either from what I was told. Sounds like agent speak.

DAVIS HEADING TO PHILLY

A team source tells us that running back Stephen Davis will visit with the Eagles on Monday, possibly as a precursor to signing a free-agent deal.

Davis passed a physical last week with Dr. James Andrews of Birmingham, Alabama.  A letter was then sent to every team explaining that Davis is healthy and available.

The Eagles currently have injury issues at the tailback position.  Brian Westbrook has a bad foot.  Correll Buckhalter is working his way back from two lost seasons; he managed a 48-yard run on Thursday night against the Ravens.

Other teams that could be interested in Davis include the taterskins.  Davis was drafted by Washington in 1996 and spent seven seasons in D.C.  Coach Steve Spurrier gave up on him after the 2002 season, but Davis then had his best season ever in 2003 with the Panthers, as Carolina landed in the Super Bowl.  Davis was injured for most of the 2004 season, and had 12 touchdowns in 13 games before landing in IR in 2005.

Another possible scenario would be for Davis to sign with a new team after the first week of the regular season, since if he is on any team's roster for the opening weekend his entire salary would be fully guaranteed.

Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

I guess Moats fumbling like crazy along with Perry being wiped off the face of the planet has changed the minds in the FO...

I still think Davis' knees are cooked. But if they sign him I'll root like hell for him to help the team out,
