I don't know about everybody else but this situation has me worried.  For one I am a Combat Engineer which in and of itself is bad for a war with them.  My job is to clear mine fields and there are more minefields in Korea than anywhere in the world.  I know nothing will happen in the next few days but this is something we need to be aware of.  This is definately not a good situation, from talking to friends that have been in Korea or are there now if they decide to do something the initial situation would be a complete slaugther of US troops.

Im no expert, but Korea has done this before in years past, fired missles and threatened the US, Japan and other Asian countries.     Im not worried at all about Korea, if they had the balls to do it, they would of done something awhile ago.  Why do you think they would slaughter US troops?  Why if we got involved with them would there be a need to have any troops at first?  I can see airstrikes that would grind the country to a halt in no time.  Bomb them to the stone age and bounce.

US troops in South Korea have known for years they would be only a speed bump in the event of a North Korean invasion.  Our 35,000 troops would be completly overwhelmed by the Norths 1 million plus Army.

As far as the current situation (as of 8pm EST there have been 6 confirmed missle launches) I think its just NK making sure they are on our mind on the 4th of July.  The nutball running that country may not even be in control anymore (rumors have it he died months ago).  That country will simply collapse in the next 10 years and China and South Korea will vye for control.

The DPRK knows the more nuclear capability they demonstrate, the more other countries will give them free shtein to prop up their failed economy. This saber rattling is intended to spur on the six-party talks so they can get more commitments for free shtein.

The US is in a tough spot, because anything we let Korea get away with, Iran will feel entitled to do as well. On the other hand, any real military action to stop the growth of their nuclear commitment would result in a regional war that would make Iraq look like a walk in the park. I predict that things will develop much the same as in Iran: unwilling to do anything to stop North Korea other than make meaningless diplomatic concessions, the rest of the world will simply sit there and wince as North Korea develops advanced nuclear strike capability. The DPRK won't launch any offensive strikes, but will use the increased leverage to extort just about anything it wants from its neighbors.

For the Iranian situation, Israel is the wild card. In this situation, it's Japan. Japan will feel that it's forced to go nuclear, or at the very least beef up its defense forces heavily, to keep up with the Joneses.

Excellent point regarding Japan.  Japan is still hated by Korea (both North and South) and China because of WWII.  If Japan were to alter its constitution so it could build a professional army, well, that would be something to really worry about.
