perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

QuoteHBO has ordered a fourth and final season of "Tremé." It's just unclear how long that season will be.

As first reported by Dave Walker of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, "Tremé" co-creators David Simon and Eric Overmyer announced at a premiere screening in New Orleans tonight that HBO had given its approval for a fourth season, which would close out the story arc that Simon and Overmyer had planned for the series and its characters.

Simon also explained that this wouldn't be a season the length of the first three, which ran 10, 11 and 10 episodes, respectively, and that HBO executives "fought very hard to give us half a loaf" to finish things.

UPDATE: I emailed Simon to ask for clarification on what "half a loaf" means, and he wrote, "HBO has offered us a lump sum to budget a conclusion to 'Tremé,' and we are trying to figure out how to stretch that amount in the best possible way.  Right now, we are tentatively looking at anywhere between four and six hours of programming, depending on a variety of things.  It's half a loaf, but it represents a sincere effort by Mike Lombardo and Richard Plepler to end the narrative properly.  We'll do the best we can with the story arcs and try to conclude 'Tremé' in a resonant way."

Because the nature of this final half-season doesn't fit the terms of the actors' contracts, the entire cast was free to walk away at this point. The producers spent the past week speaking with each actor, and Simon told the premiere audience, "To a person, they all came back, We're happy for a chance to finish the story on our own terms."

It's not an ideal solution, but given the ratings for "Tremé" relative to HBO's other original series, the existence of any kind of fourth season is something to be celebrated.

thats code for get this worthless show over with quick and make us another wire
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

treme should have never been made to begin with...the fact that it got four seasons is a testament to the power of the gawd

it got made because hbo thought they were getting the wire: new orleans

when it didnt turn out to be that they kept it going because the reviews were terrific and because they want to be in the david simon business. so basically they are waiting out his treme boner so he can go back to the drawing board and make another wire.

they would do the same thing with david chase if he wanted. farg they did it with david milch.

#8005
other than the sopranos the wire has been the most important show in the history of hbo

sopranos of course made them more $ because of the massive increase in subscribers, but the wire being what it is has elevated the hbo brand to a stratospheric area no one can compete with. for hbo its not all about ratings. of course they matter but brand identification and image mean just as much.

thats why theyll renew shows that get good reviews and that win emmys even if the ratings suck. conversely they have that terrible vampire show true blood that is awful but its really popular. so it all evens out.

plus the wire was on mostly before on demand, dvr, hbo go, etc. treme has all of those things and its significantly less popular.

yes, its good but clearly missing jimmy and now the jew gangster

killing jimmy will go down as the worst creative decision in recent tv memory. shows still good, it just aint the same.

if it goes seven more years then maybe you can say it will miss him...but if it ends in two or three years of top notch quality episodes then its a brilliant move...i hated it so much when they killed him cause he was such a good character but at the ame time i love when shows take chances like that....basically it was winter mirroring the sopranos killing off pussssssie

i mean if you go by the first episode since his killing its not only not missing him its stepped its game up
