Jesus christ tonight's episode farging sucked.  I have so many problems with it that I can't get into it here right now.  I love the show but that was one of the worst episodes in the history of the show.

My nerded out theory, I know I'm gonna regret this but here goes:
So knowing that Darlton are big Star Wars fans, I've conjured up a theory:
MIB = Anakin
Jacob = Obi Wan
Island = The Force

The whole episode I was thinking these stories don't make sense because Jacob should be leaving to go with the villagers and MIB should be staying with his Mom since he was favored. I think the story is Jacob has been doing ALL of this to get his brother back or to free his soul. He acted out of anger when he threw him into the cave and clearly regretted it when he saw his brothers body lying there. So I think this story is about Jacob ultimately redeeming his brother, sort of how Obi-Wan turns on Anakin (another sad story) who becomes Darth Vader. In Star Wars Vader kills Obi-Wan (Obi-Wan goes willingly same as when Jacob was killed by Ben). As we've seen in this episode the MIB is not originally evil, he would be a classic character in Greek tradedy.

Like Star Wars, Obi Wan was dead but continued to guide Luke, same way Jacob continues to guide the Candidates (he left them power and communicates with them through Hurley just like Obi Wan communicated with Luke via Force Ghost).
I liked the episode, didn't love it. But I thought it was necessary to tell MIB/Jacobs back story since they're such a big part of the mythology of the show. The thing I'm going to be pissed about is if they end without explaining the Egyptian's role on the island. Why even have the statue and all of the heiroglyphics if you're not going to explain them.

The thing is, it's not like I left the episode and said "damn that MIB is a rotten sob". Anakin wasn't rotten until he was manipulated by the Emperor. I don't think MIB was bad until he was thrown into the cave.

No one on the island knows ANYTHING.  First it was Ben.  Then Ben didn't know wtf was going on, but wait, there's Richard who has been there forever.  Well, Richard doesn't really know annnything.  But wait, there's Jacob and MIB, who it turns out, don't know anything really about the island except that it's important to protect.  WTF?

How did Jacob get off the island?  Why couldn't MIB leave the island before he was turned into Smokey?  Now that he's Smokey, is it actually Jacob's brother, or is the smoke monster just using his brother's memories like he's using Locke's, Christian's etc?  How did the wheel get built since it wasn't finished?  Adam and Eve Jack predicted were decaying for 50 years?  Off by maybe 5,000?  Jacob's a whining bitch.  There's nothing likable about that episode and they only have 3.5 hrs to provide some context to it, which they won't.

MDS

how is MIB smokey? MIB is a skeleton. did smokey inhabit MIB's spirit or something?

smokey had to be on the island, how else did MIB see his real mother? so isnt smokey allison janney? or did MIB going into the cave unlock smokey? i dont know.

none of this makes sense. and if its explained, then how am i supposed to care about believing that this farging source of light is so important? WHAT THE farg

it wasnt bad it was just confusing and maddening. the only thing that was answered who adam and ever were. otherwise it just caused more questions and more skepticism. thats not bad television, just annoying. because there are 2 eps to go, so...i guess something has to give.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

In fairness to the writers they said all the major answers will be revealed by the finale, so we have 2 weeks to judge. I'll bitch and moan a storm if it's a bunch of crap. I wasn't blown away by tonight's episode but I didn't think it was that bad.

Eagles_Legendz

MIB has to be part of Smokey after he was tossed into the 'light'.  Can't kill Jacob because of the rules his mother made.  Said he body was stolen from him.  Gets pissed off whenever he sees young dead Jacob.   The mother saying getting tossed in the cave is worse than death clearly means somehow turning into Smokey.  It just doesn't make any sense, and yes the episode was bad.  Maybe my expectations were too high but I really think it farging sucked.

Eagles_Legendz

Or maybe she was the smoke monster which explains how she could kill that whole village, and appearing as the dead actual mom was part of a long con to get someone to replace her as the new Smokey on the island.  I don't farging know.  Normally I think Lost is actually pretty straight forward just with some fun mysteries to bat around.  This one I can't understand.

Once he was thrown into the cave his soul got detached from his body and he became the smoke monster. I don't think it matters if you're good or bad, you get thrown into that cave and you're farged (like crazy mom said) . Sort of like in Star Wars, when Anakin turned to the darkside he ceased to be the good man he was and became an agent of evil. The thing is - like Star Wars - Obi Wan was full of regret and ultimately fought (through other people like Luke) to turn Anakin back to the good side. I think that's where they're going with this story.

My ending prediction is: Jacob saves his brothers soul, and Jack and Kate or Sawyer and Kate stay on the island and raise Aaron who is a child of destiny or maybe the new protector of the island.

Also, it's clear that the 'rules' aren't going to ever make sense now with Ben & Widmore and are they ever going to address the "don't let him speak" thing before stabbing Smokey ????????

yes, supposedly

i think the fact that 1000 conversations like this are taking place is the problem

why cant we just enjoy a tv show and not need to discuss nerdy star wars theorys and other crap. seriously. spell it out for me and tell me what the island is, how everyone got there, how the light got there, how it was all created, why its destiny, etc.

i knew 4 years ago this show was ultimately going to be a disappointment because there was no way the set up could lead to the revelations, but ugh, i just want this to end. i have no farging idea what im watching. why couldnt they do this show like mad men or breaking bad? nerds.

i dont care about any of this anymore. i just want sawyer to win. hes awesome.

#4675
I don't need everything spelled out for me and the conversations are part of the fun about Lost.  The ride will end up being great even if the mythology isn't.  I didn't watch Lost for the 'answers' I watched to enjoy the show and the ride, and that will always be awesome.  I just feel like they had a big opportunity with this episode to summarize the history of the island and really swung and missed.

MDS

the episode was fine, it just didnt make a whole lot of sense. where as the richard alpert episode did, it explained him. this one i guess intentionally left things out in the open to either be answered later or left up to you to fill in the blanks.

which is gay.

also im not a sci fi nerd and the second lost went all sci fi it lost a ton of points with me. ive been here since the pilot so there is no getting out now nor was there getting out 2 years ago. im pot committed. i just know im playing a losing hand ahahahahahha thats funny, admit it.

And now that I think about it, that crazy mother was definitely the protector AND the smoke monster, and she groomed both of Jacob and MIB to split the job in two for whatever reason.

SD

There wasn't a smoke monster before MIB was thrown into the cave. The cave represents (in my analogy) the Emperor. The force is fine if you use it to maintain peace, once you use it for your own inner passions it manipulates and destroys you. The cave was the power of the island, men were free to use it but once they got too much of it it turned them into evil (the crazy mother mentioned something similar)

Eagles_Legendz

I dunno.  I didn't think she was either, but once I started thinking about the episode I began thinking that she was already the smoke monster, she just had two roles of both smokey/protector and wanted to split them among Jacob/MIB.  That might be why MIB saw his dead mother, and how else do you explain her killing the whole village of people?  I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised.
