classic case of a show trying to be smart, funny, sarcastic and serious and failing terribly in all 3 aspects.

Hahaha. The aggregate intelligence around here keeps on plummeting. I don't know where the bottom is but we've got to be pretty close.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

should i jump in here or just say out of it?
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I'm not here to tell you what to do, kid.

Well it was more a rhetorical question, Rus.

The creator of Flash Forward said he envisions the show lasting at least 3 seasons, though they'll get to that 6 mo period this year.  The shows been good but not great so far.

Hey Todd, i saw Southland ended up getting pushed, and canceled i guess in the beginning of October.  There's talk that they'll be moving to TNT or FX, any word?  I think they'd be better off on a cable outlet anyway.

rumor is its going to tnt, whatever was filmed will air and thatll be it. its either doubtful or not happening that it gets picked up by tnt. basically a burnoff.

anyone plan on checking out V?  i kind of sort of remember that show from when i was a kid.

todd, what does the weekly edition of the holly-jew insider say about it?

MDS

mixed reviews from what i understand. probably a solid B to start out, then it could go either way. they are airing 4 eps now, then holding the rest off to after the olympics. stupid decision there.

Is 'Southland' going to do it again? Well, you'll have to watch TNT to find out
By Lisa de Moraes
Tuesday, November 3, 2009

TNT will hold a viewing of the body of "Southland," the NBC cop drama killed by Jay Leno, starting Jan. 12.

TNT plans first to air the initial episodes of the show -- the seven that NBC broadcast last season. Only after that will TNT air the six episodes ordered for this season, then murdered by a programming strategy that gave the 10 o'clock time slot to Leno's talk show, where God intended gritty crime dramas to live.

The decision to have the wake at TNT keeps the loss in the family: Both the cable network and Warner Bros. TV, which produced the series, are part of Time Warner. And while the Warner Bros. TV brood is one of the largest -- it has more than 20 series on the broadcast networks' prime-time schedules this season -- several of its offspring are on life support and one has already been buried. In the ICU are "Hank," "The Forgotten" and "Eastwick." In the morgue is "The Beautiful Life," which was conceived with Ashton Kutcher.

If "Southland" shows any pulse in its 13-week run on TNT, Warner Bros. obviously hopes to keep it alive.

But if not, at least in its 13-week denouement on TNT, "Southland" will be given the chance to do in Jay Leno! Tuesday, after all, is his strongest night in terms of overall audience, thanks in large measure to his "Biggest Loser" lead-in.

NBC promised last spring it would renew "Southland" -- the John Wells drama that succeeded Wells's "ER" on Thursdays at 10. But, because NBC had already announced its decision to turn over 10 o'clock weeknights to Jay Leno in a cost-saving measure, "Southland" had to move to 9. Which is a curious place to put a very dark, grisly crime drama that has lots of bleeped adult language.

And, because "Southland" had fallen off noticeably in ratings from its premiere to its first-season finale, NBC relegated it to 9 p.m. on Friday: The Night of Low Expectations.

Things continued to go south for "Southland": NBC promised it would return to its schedule on Sept. 25 but then, ominously, delayed the restart to Oct. 23.

Finally, about two weeks before that date, the network slapped on its black armband and acknowledged that "Southland" was no more. Note to Leno: It's considered polite to send lilies.

A room without Windows

In more Warner Bros. news, the company's film division has rushed in where Microsoft feared to tread and will be the sole sponsor of Seth MacFarlane's Fox network variety special airing this Sunday.

Warner Bros. will use the half-hour live-action and animation special, still called "Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show," to promote its new flick "Sherlock Holmes," which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law and is directed by the former Mr. Madonna, a.k.a. Guy Ritchie.

Originally, MacFarlane and Alex Borstein ( who voices Lois on MacFarlane's "Family Guy") were going to pause between comedy bits to plug Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system.

Which, the Reporters Who Love Seth MacFarlane insisted, was revolutionary television and a throwback to the golden age of television when show hosts would suddenly erupt into praise for some dog food or cigarette brand mid-show. No, it's not easy to reconcile "revolutionary" and "retro" but The Reporters Who Love Seth MacFarlane are nothing if not contrary.

Now, even the most rabid MacFarlane fanboy has had to admit, the half-hour special is just another commercial-free episode of some show covered by a single sponsor. Nothing "revolutionary" there.

Microsoft, which was looking to court MacFarlane's elusive geek-guy audience, decided it didn't have the stomach to get into bed with the "Family Guy"/"American Dad"/"Cleveland Show" creator after some of its suits attended the show taping last month and realized that in these troubled times, Holocaust and feminine hygiene jokes are best delivered by darling, precocious cartoon characters -- not actual people.

Talkin' turkey day

Despite aggressive lobbying by their producers, the 20-somethings pretending to be high-schoolers in the cast of "Glee" ultimately did not get an official invite to perform at this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

On the other hand, some actual high-schoolers will be performing in the parade, including students in the marching band from Ballou Senior High School in Southeast Washington, parade network NBC announced Monday.

Also performing will be the Towson University band.

And, of course, the Macy's Great American Marching Band featuring students from all 50 states will be back.

The creators of "Glee" had been in talks with the parade reps at Macy's about performing during the parade, which is broadcast nationally on NBC. But NBC ixnayed the eeglay because "Glee" is a prime-time series that airs on a competing broadcast network -- and, of course, NBC, being the weakling among broadcast networks in the ratings, would look just silly promoting a show that airs on Fox -- this season's BMOC.

Sadly, "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy was mistaken when he said at the time he "completely" understood NBC's decision to nix the "Glee" idea in order to make room in the parade broadcast for a Jay Leno float.

There is no Jay Leno float in this year's parade, according to the list NBC and Macy's issued Monday. We double-checked.

On the bright side, there is a Jimmy Fallon float and it will feature not only the NBC late-night host but also his show's band, The Roots.

i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

Seabiscuit36

Thanks IGY.  Southland really surprised me, good cast, good plots, just tough timeslots again.  If it has any shot, they gotta make it work on cable.  FX really would have been the best fit with The Shield being done
