break beat 101

dope video.....the narrator overstates this particular breaks importance/influence...theres numerous other drum breaks that were bigger than this one

the funky drummer being the king

another huge one and maybe my personal favorite is the skull snaps 'its a new day'....the break is at the start of the song....been used on more hip-hop songs than probably any drum break except for the funky drummer....and even better its a great song all by itself....download and love

I got the Skull Snaps a year or so ago.  I had the opening lyrics to the track just after It's a New Day,  I'm Your Pimp, stuck in my head all afternoon because I went to listen to the album after watching that video

i'm your pimp
i wear my hat to the side
and walk with a limp

not a great song or anything..just had the lines in my head

vigy probably laughing at me.  oh well

Good find, Dio.

I dig strong drum beats and bass lines. I could listen to drum beats all day. I used to want to play the drums when I was a kid but my parents wouldn't let me. Too loud, they said. So I chose the saxophone. I ended up playing tenor sax and it worked out well for me. Got me into jazz big time.

YO IGY!!!!!

I remember that a while back maybe on the other hip-hop thread...that I mentioned World Reknown but I couldn't remember what song...and you couldn't believe I knew who they were....anyways....I was going through an old list of vinyl I have and the song is "Come take a ride".

Bonus...remember Queen Pen? "Man behind the music"? Ha!! I almost want to cry going through the my list...anyways....
