The Mets are due to lose some games too.  They have been hotter than us lately, I think there is a good chance we take that series.

except the mets are actually a good team and should and have won lots of games...the phils are a .500 team if they are lucky and should not be winning as much as they have...hence they are due to drop back below .500 about now

I like the Phils chance with that pitching lineup.

Phils interested in Conine

QuotePhillies Are Interested In Conine

BALTIMORE, Aug. 24 -- The Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies have had several conversations this week about a possible swap for first baseman-outfielder Jeff Conine, according to a baseball source who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The teams have spoken at least twice, the source said. The only obstacle to a deal is Conine's vesting option for next season, which will kick in when he reaches 450 plate appearances. The Phillies are wary of taking on Conine's contract next season, worth $2 million. Conine has 420 plate appearances.

The Phillies, once thought to be in a rebuilding mode after trading outfielder Bobby Abreu and pitcher Cory Lidle, are 2 1/2 games back in the NL wild-card race. Conine likely would become an outfielder with the Phillies, who have all-star Ryan Howard at first base. Conine, 40, is hitting .265 with eight home runs.

He's only due $2M. After saving so much this year spend the stinkin' money and get him in here. I can somewhat understand the reluctance to take on Reggie Sanders' $5M, but there should be no reason this does not get done.

It'd be nice to see a guy who used to stick a shiv in the Phillies necks help them for once.

Can he still play OF at all?

Not that it matters - he'd be a PH more often than not.

PhillyPhreak54

He can't be worse than Pat in LF.

But you're right - his major purpose here would be to provide a RH bat with some pop off the bench.

Why?!?  Isn't that what Danny Sandoval is on the team for?!?!?!??!?!!?!?

What we could do is get him on Aug 31 and only use him enough time to make his PA number hit 449. That'll piss him off.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Wary of taking on $2M?

That's ridiculous.
