Ryan Madson worked 7 2/3 innings and allowed three runs Wednesday in a win over the Diamondbacks. The final two runs scored in the eighth, the last coming after he left the game. Mdson is now 5-1 as a starter, even though he generally hasn't pitched very well. He'll likely get better if the Phillies let him, and it appears as though the team has little alternative to sticking with him for now.

Gavin Floyd allowed one run and struck out nine in a complete game Tuesday in his first start since being sent down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Floyd had a 7.29 ERA in 11 starts before being demoted last week. The Phillies may use him as trade bait next month.

The Phillies bullpen has a 3.19 ERA, the best in baseball.

Lefthanders are 0 for 19 against lefthander Cole Hamels.

hopefully a team will not realize how big of a Hoyda he is on the major league level. or one of the AAAA teams will throw away a decent prospect for him

The Devil Rays have some serious talent on that squad and their minor league system is filled to the brim with prospects.

What's really sad is that they play in a tomb of a stadium in the middle of nowhere and as a result they'll never draw enough fans to make enough dough to compete in the AL East.  Having them there to begin with is retarded as hell anyway.

One good thing, though... if you're a Red Sox or Yankees fan in Florida, you can always see your team play there easily enough.

So you're saying people still wouldn't have shown up if the Giants had followed through with the move there 13 years ago?

BTW, for those that haven't read the Rest of Baseball thread, some of the Phillies we remember from the 80s and early 90s had their kids drafted the last 2 days....  :-\

I don't know who to root for when I go see the Red Barons take on the Durham Bulls in July.

You planned a trip to a minor league game that far in advance? You need a life.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

In all honesty, Ed, I don't know.  They put the ballpark in an absolutely idiotic location.  It's in downtown St. Petersburg which is pretty far away from where the core of the population in the Tampa area resides.  For people in Tampa, Clearwater and the other northern communities, it's at least a 1/2 hour ride to Tropicana Field.  Additionally, they built the place in a really bad neighborhood too.  It's not like they built it in a place that you'd go to for any other reason than to go to a baseball game.

It's the same situation that Miami finds itself in.  Joe Robbie is in the middle of nowhere and for people who can afford to go to games on a routine basis, it's a hassle to get there.

The losing hasn't helped any, obviously, but when the Devil Rays first got there, attendance was pretty damn good.

Like I said, I honestly don't know.  It's a catch-22 for the Devil Rays because they tried signing big money veterans to spike attendance and that didn't work.  They tried building though the draft and that hasn't worked.  They signed Lou Pinella and that didn't work.  Nothing has worked for them and having a ballpark that is nothing more than an oversized warehouse hasn't make things any better.

I kinda like the place, myself, but that doesn't mean the ordinary baseball fan in the Tampa Bay area would.

It's the only time this season the Barons come into town.  I haven't bought tickets or decided which exact game I'm going to yet, so you can go ahead and help me out with some stellar advice on that.  Thanks in advance.

I like the Trop for one reason, and one reason only.  No chance of rainouts.

That's big in Florida during the summer.
