Couple of cheap wins, actually. I'll take em, but sooner or later they'll come back and even out.

Howard is the king. 2 homers off lhp. Hopefully he can start doing it consistnatly now.

Pitching has been superb, especially the starters. Lidle just needs to get them in games, no one expects Cy Young.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Cheap wins?

How are two games with excellent pitching and timely hitting 'cheap'?

I'm sorry but those are exactly the types of games the Phillies used to lose with annoying frequency.  If they've learned how to win those games, they're going to be dangerous as hell in the coming months.

Anyone can win the occasional 8-2 blowout but most games come down to 1 or 2 run differentials.  I love seeing them win games like today.

Great win and nice sweep of a very good team on their turf.   :yay

Agreed.  This Phils have been playing as well as anyone in MLB over the last 13 games or so.  So when you've got a team playing as well as they are, the so called "cheap wins" are a product of the team playing well as a whole.

If this team is 10 games below .500 and riding a 5 game losing streak, then it's a cheap win that was stolen from a better team.  But not with the way they've been playing lately.

They hate that term. They preferred being called "realists".
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

as much shtein as charlie gets and he deserves all of it...you have to at the same time give him a ton of credit for bringing out howard in the 8th against a lefthander...he knew with the way they are hitting the ball right now they werent gonna put hits together to score a run...howard was the only way they were tying the game and thats where he went...big ups charlie
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

9-14 two weeks ago, I had this team as dead.  I'll take "cheap" wins any day.  Beating the Reds three straight in Cincy is by no means "cheap" any way you look at it.  I honestly thought the Reds were going to bring us all back to earth this weekend as they were on a tear themselves.  The fact the phils are winning these 2-0, 2-1 games gives me a lot of optimism going into the dog days of summer.  This is truly exciting.

How long's he supposed to be shut down?

BigEd76

Could be a month, but he's only on the 15-day DL for now...

say it aint so Ed...say it aint so

Not exactly Philles discussion but Jim Thome just crushed one to center field in Minny and Torri Hunter made a great catch to rob him of a homer.  Thome was using the pink bat and obviously had he been using a more manly color then it would have been gone.

I mean, its great to praise breast cancer awareness and all, but christ....why dont you just paint the players faces pink while your at it. so bad.

Sgt PSN

Pink bases, pink home plate, pink balls, pink gloves and pink chalk lines would be teh awesome.

cheap win? of course. is that a bad thing? no. good teams get those. the friday game was legit. the saturday game we got 2 cheap runs. dropped fly ball and wild pitch. again, good teams capatalize off mistakes. we did that. by golly, we could be a good team. sunday they hit about 500 balls that were inches away from homers. 1 guy showed up to bat for us. the pitching has been great, as said, but these two wins were kinda stolen. but hey, you need those in the course of a long season. i just have a feeling things will even out and we'll a lose a game or two like that later on.

think about this. in the series, really the only big bat to show up was howard. utley and burrell were mia. abreu sat out the 2 games. rollins got on base like once. theres no offensive producation from the catcher. david bell is david bell. victorino was pretty good, too. roberson got on base once when he played. so really, victorino and howard were the only two bats to show up and we swept the reds. the team in first place in the central. pretty impressive.
